Monthly Puzzles

#1 Post by Bunnylump » Wed Jan 01, 2025 6:07 pm

Sorry to put this here when we already have a surfeit of unsolved puzzles, but when I wrote it I was under the impression that the current set was going to be released much sooner. The reason I am posting this now is that it is a January puzzle - feel free to ignore if you are already overloaded, but if you fancy giving it a go then please bear this in mind. No fancy layout, no answer checker (You will have to message me privately if you want to check if you solved it OK.) I am posting some clues in the next post just in case you need them. Hope you like it. :D

Hints for January puzzle. I can add more if you need them.

There are two answers per clue

The colours indicate a similar type of clue for one of the two answers.

Blue clues are straightforward. The other colours indicate either homophones or hidden second answers.

One of the sets of clues can give you an order.

Sorry, folks, the enumeration for The fifth leader of the Soviet Union was in a court in Grozny should be (8), not 9 - thanks Scurra.

Oh, for goodness sake! You just can't get the staff! I've given you a correction for the wrong word. So now you know that your second answer must have 8 letters - so in fact, a bonus hint! ) The first answer should have had the enumeration (6,8) Sorry about that.

Note - I DID get this tested, but didn't get anyone to test my enumeration. And we all know I can't count.

Well, the jester has had fewer other puzzles to distract/confuse/befuddle/frustrate him!

I will get around to this too soon, probably very soon!

3d is a collective noun
8a is often referred to just by the first 7 letters (the last 3 are really a sort of superfluous synonym.)
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.
All of my puzzles are simple and obvious. For certain values of "simple" and "obvious".

I would positively encourage it ( as long as it's under spoilers! Having spent some time making these puzzles, I would really like it if people can actually do them!
I will be posting the final wrecking ball clue (if I remember! ) on the last day of January. I'm aiming to make that one a "here's what you have to do to solve the puzzle" type. You know me, I'm not known for subtlety. I think, in future, I will add them as I write them, to the original puzzle. I have no idea how long I will keep doing this, but there is definitely a February puzzle coming soon, and I think I have about six more. Some might require some collaboration!

Final, wrecking ball clue for January puzzle:

SHOO HARES "Go away!" = SHOO! Sounds like SHOE I shouted at the husk of animals = collective noun husk applies to a particular animal.
One, two, buckle my SHOE - therefore the first two letters of that animal are the first two letters of the message. Continue in this vein! :D
