Well, naturally, I'm normally only ever sarcastic to you, Bunny...

Hm, was just going to say that if it was an insult, it was probably you, Bunnylump.

I think I know rather too much about the London Underground now, to be truthful!!
I see. I thought you might have been replying to MBH, Scurra. I wasn't sure who the "man with the little list" was. I was just hoping it was a big insult.
I don't remember anything I've learned or anything else either. And the main time I enjoy anything is when I'm not supposed to be doing it.

You apparently haven't learned English though

(This is a classic example of a song that always acquires topical references in any production. Although these "original" lyrics are still surprisingly pertinent.)

Sad news. I met (and enjoyed) him through the Belgariad many years ago. A good storyteller.

Black Swan Green by David Mitchell - It was an impulse buy that's turning out to be a very enjoyable read

Re: I'm Busy Reading....
Before Dishonour - a Star Trek:The Next Generation novel. The Borg are back - and evolving
A fair way through this, and I've got to admit that it's not 'gelling' for me... all the elements are there, but it doesn't feel right. Must be the way the characters are coming across compared to how we KNOW them from the series.
The Awakening by Kelley Armstrong - second in the Darkest Powers trilogy.
This is a series with teenage leads set in a 'world' of supernaturals that she has already written an 'adult' set of books for. No! Not naughty (well - not much) - but the majority are the characters are adult.
I still love this author, she's a great story teller who draws you in to turning the pages. Written for a slightly younger audience it is even easier reading than the other novels. *** Since this is her current book out in the series I'll need to wait again when I'm finished this for the conclusion to be written and released
*** Can anyone tell me HOW the writing differs between audiences? I've noticed this with a couple of authors who write for both groups - the stories are good stories (which is MY main focus), and I don't struggle in any way reading the adult books, but I fly through the ones written for the teenage audience. Same words, same language, seemingly the same sort of 'length' of story, but there must be subtle differences in the writing style.... Odd!

Make sure you read Cloud Atlas which is just brilliant. It's got a slightly strange format (a bit like a puzzle in fact!) but it is so rewarding.maisie ladybird wrote:Black Swan Green by David Mitchell - It was an impulse buy that's turning out to be a very enjoyable read
MBH - How many of the "post TV" Next Generation novels have you read? The characters have definitely carried on evolving as the books have progressed, so they aren't quite the same as the tv characters now anyway. (Having said that, I didn't rate Before Dishonor very highly myself, even though the concept is quite interesting and there are some decent twists.)

Re: I'm Busy Reading....
I missed changing my 'reading' tag for a couple of books, one I missed was:
Star Trek: New Frontier
by the same author, featuring the adventures of Captain Mackenzie Calhoun and his crew aboard the U.S.S. Excalibur. I thought this book was great - introducing a new set of characters and revisiting old ones that he captured perfectly (IMHO). [Although for one particualr fight scene, he must have had an 'original' DVD running in the background because it was TOTALLY Kirk rolling around between polystyrene boulders ]
EDIT: After a quick wiki on this book, I find there is a LOT of stuff written I didn't know about. For instance - I didn't know that the younger members of the crew (who seemed to have a good back-history) came from a different series set in the Acadamy... suddenly it all becomes clear.

Re: I'm Busy Reading....
All change:
In the house:
Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead
In the car:
Artemis Fowl and the Lost Colony by Eoin Colfer
On the web:
http://www.fictionalley.org/authors/sar ... arked.html
{I'd already read "Free Will and Fate" by the same author}
I also missed saying that I have read two of the Tanya Huff 'Blood' series - Blood Price and Blood Trail (4 more to find). Yet another TOTALLY different outlook on the supernatural creatures type of book. Very good

Re: I'm Busy Reading....
I can't believe how many books you read. It takes me weeks to read a book, sometimes months!!
But then it's mainly because I'm always falling asleep.

Re: I'm Busy Reading....
5 minutes here, 2 minutes there, holding a book with one hand while spooning cereal in with the other, 15-30 minutes wait while acting as family taxi driver.... In other words, exactly the periods of time that I CAN'T spend doing puzzles.
I don't know about anyone else, but there is no way I could solve an alphactor (for instance) under those circumstances but I can plough through the reading of the sort of books I read and enjoy them all.
