Re: Arnolfini Wedding
I'll go along with that BB - my thanks go to the Bunny, since I knew what I was trying to do but could only get 80% of the way to the destination
Just for the record - the final answer means NOTHING to me.... this edition is not in my natural area of knowledge
And I started with this one because I could recognize what direction it was going in - I'm not sure which puzzle I'll look at next

Well, hopefully you'll have learned something* by the time you get to the endMBH wrote:this edition is not in my natural area of knowledge

All of my puzzles are simple and obvious. For certain values of "simple" and "obvious".

Re: Arnolfini Wedding
Well it meant something to me, but only because I used to work for a company that made things such as the answer. I recognised the word immediately, but I can see that it might cause problems.
Re: Arnolfini Wedding
Oh great! Now I'm really looking forward to attempting this one!
It sounds horrendous.

Re: Arnolfini Wedding
Something else to consider during the solving process (as well as "look at what you've got"!)
These puzzles are designed to be part of a larger "meta-puzzle". You should also look at the answers you have already got, to see whether you can get any clues as to what other answers might be - there is a very distinct pattern involved which may be helpful (I'd be interested to know if those people who have finished saw the pattern and, if they did, if it helped them at all.)
Or, of course, it may not help. Sometimes you can't see what's right under your nose

Re: Arnolfini Wedding
Not that I can do the puzzle - to be honest I haven't looked at it yet - but I've just got back from the Renaisssance Faces Exhibition at the National Gallery and the Arnolfini Wedding was there.

No, nothing's ever there when you want it to be
Re: Arnolfini Wedding
It would have been a bit of a shock if Papa Smurf and the others had been there wouldn't it!
Re: Arnolfini Wedding
Yes - so I couldn't go and see it like I normally do
I went down the other week to see the Titians* and normally drop by the "early Dutch" room because I never tire of looking at the pictures in there - and of course quite a bit of it wasn't there! So I had to make do with going and looking at the Claudes instead
*which are ravishing and utterly priceless. I would support buying them "for the nation" because it really is that important that they are only public display and not locked away in some private collection somewhere, but asking us all to chip in a quid each? That's a bit much!

Re: Arnolfini Wedding
The concept of "backsolving" may not be readily apparent to many, but I'm sure it will become second nature before too long! (in both such things as "ah, that's what the picture of the boat in the Arnolfini is then" and "so that's the one we're missing - it must mean..." for a puzzle answer.)Scurra wrote:Something else to consider during the solving process (as well as "look at what you've got"!)

Or you could try my approach, which is keep guessing until something fits! What? Bodger? Me? Never!

I'm off on a different puzzle learning that I know bog-all about movie posters as well
(5 out of 10 seems to be my regular score at the minute - though I'll need the full list to determine 'iconic' status)
See you on that thread

Re: Arnolfini Wedding
I don't think there's any one website that can help you terribly well with this one - only Google, of course, but that's tricky when you aren't sure what you're looking for.
The best advice for this one is Scurra's above - look again at what you have. You should hopefully get enough of them to see a connection. The car logo and the little blue man next to him are good starters, as well as the sound equipment at the bottom.

Re: Arnolfini Wedding
Have ID'd some of the discs Scurra has put over the Stations of the Cross which are on the original picture, but stuck on the top disc of the man in the black hat and the pic of the boat to the left of him, and although I think I know who the man is to the right of the yellow disc at the bottom, I would like some confirmation.
