Isn't the seaside wonderful? :D :D :D I still think our British coastline is more fun than just lying on the beach in Spain - where the fish and chips are pathetic!

Nicest fish and chips I've ever had (not that I eat them very often) was from Arbroath Harbour. Lovely fresh haddock that'd just been caught. Mmmm.

Laura, that sounds like a lovely day out! :D

Listening to kids with the most amazing British accents (and Chinese faces-boarding school returnees) who have absolutely no clue about anything  Fit my mental level very nicely today. Dr. gave me some wonderful headache tablets that simply put my brain to sleep and makes everything move in slow motion. I've been clueless since I started taking these things.

Do you think someone's been slipping them to me as well? That's what I'm like all the time.

......deafened

I've been to two concerts today. County Youth Training Wind Orchestra and Youth Training Woodwind Ensemble this morning. (Lally plays in the latter, but has been promoted to the former from September) The woodwind ensemble were a bit dire, I can see why she says the pieces are too easy, but I wasn't convinced they were all playing the same piece (or perhaps some of them had the music upside down) The training wind were much more impressive, it seems to be a big step up. She commented that they are all very big. The average age seems to be about 15 and she was only 10 this week. I told her not to worry and to just pretend to play if she couldn't keep up, or only play the first note in each bar. (That's what I used to do when I first joined the school orchestra on the bassoon. )

This afternoon was the County Wind Orchestra (Kingsley) , County youth percussion ensemble and County girls choir.
The orchestra are really impressive (next stage up from the one Lally is about to join, ) The choir were good, but seemed to sing just about every song from Les miserables (bass clarinetist fell asleep much to the amusement of the Tubas) just as their warm up number. The percussion ensemble were deafening. I had taken ear plugs after last time I heard them, but didn't dare put them in, so just sat with a finger in one ear. There is nothing entertaining about hearing people bash drums :(

That's fairly horrendous shifts, Clvrlad. Is that because you are doing overtime, or are your company just mean?

Flipping heck, that's rubbish. Mind you I only get employed for 40.7 weeks a year and 21 hours a week. Last week I worked 45 hours. Because the stupid Local Authority accounting bigwigs thought it would be a great plan to invest all of Hertfordshire County Council money in that Iceland bank (haven't they heard the phrase about eggs and baskets?) I can't claim any additional hours. Oh yes, and they're not starting me on my new payscale until September. They still expect me to have all the management responsibilities though.

Sorry, this should probably have been on the Whinge Thread.

Well, this is Scurra we're talking about. I think he thinks I'm more like Frank rabbit from Donnie Darko:

Hello, I'm back after ages!

On Thursday and Friday I mostly bin painting trees! The students in my year who chose art for GSCE next year spent two days learning new skilld and getting to know th rest of the group. We spent all of Thursday outside in the sun drawing trees with pastels and on Friday we did some massive paintings (180 x 65cm) in small groups.

This is my group's painting:

Wow, they are fantastic!

I wish I could paint. Or draw.

When I first read your post I thought you'd been painting trees (as in graffiti)!

Wow! That's the first time I've seen them properly (apart from on the tiny screen on the back of the camera.)

The best I can do is a bad impression of Lowry- and that includes trees. Brilliant Kingsley.

Well, there might be a couple of odd handprints on a picnic bench near where we were working outside on Thursday! When we were doing a base colour at the beginning, the teacher came up to us and said 'Why are you using paintbrushes? On a larger scae like this, hands are the best tool!' and then proceeded to demonstrate by smearing light blue paint all over the canvas! After doing this ourselves, we sort of forgot we had pain on our hands when leaning on the picnic bench!!!

I would have taken a picture of my hands when they were bright green yesterday, only I would have got paint on the camera and I needed my hands both to take the picture and to be in the picture!

Now that sounds like my kind of art. Getting stuck in and really messy!!

That's how I cook, too.

Oh, well, I admit it, it sort of sums up my life in general!!
