On the plane front. I got a bit worried when chatting to my son and found he had been up in a private plane with the husband of a friend of ours without us knowing and knowing the husband was known for reckless behaviour. it is hard to keep tabs on the kids - didn't find that out until about six months later so obviously my son knew I would have objected. Don't get me wrong I do not object to plane rides with reputable pilots (it was the lack of notificaton and the personality of the pilot) - I have myself gone up in a plane and parachuted, so feel I would not be a party pooper.

On the cat note = when we first got the cats my husband to be was living in our house to be and he went to bed leaving the kittens in the kitchen - next morning no where to be found, till they got hungry and they had gone down a tiny little gap behind the washing machine in the kitchen - mild panic for a while there. but as you say lived to a very good age - as did their mum and sister.

He'd have crashed into a pile of chicken poo.
  OMG red wine down the nostrils. Gales of laughter. I'm in the house on my own with tears pouring down my face.

Nice plane pictures - we're all keeping our fingers crossed that NEXT weekend's weather is better than this one for the Sunderland Air Show. No flying last year due to FOG :(

Oh it's ok MBH. Just book your patch on the top of SparkOut's pile of chicken poo and you'll be well away.

I'll be working on the Saturday - taking the computer bus along for the public. We are regluars there (since it's a Council organized event), so when there is flying we get to watch :)

So if anyone's drifting up into the area to watch the Air Show give me a shout :) Largest FREE Air Show in UK (or Europe or something like that).

I've never yet been to Farnborough Airshow but always manage to see all the planes as they fly overhead. One year the Red Arrows turned right over our garden, I could see the pilots. (and the next day our little TV wouldn't work which I am convinced is connected!)

AAArrgh don't mention Farnborough Airshow to me!! That was where I went when I was about 19 with my friend and her younger brother. I had one of those t shirts with a shoulder missing (so obviously no bra, could get away with it in those days.) I had walked half way across a crowded field when I realised her brother was looking at me strangely. He said
"Do you know, I can tell you've never breast fed. My biology teacher told me that your nipples go browner when you've fed a baby." I was (unsurprisingly) rather taken aback at this comment. It was then I realised he was trying to tell me that I had a boob hanging out!!

Do they really go browner? I hadn't noticed - just checking. ;)

I provided photographic evidence of my Spitfire story. I don't own any chickens nor have a pile of poo myself, just that the pilot would have landed splat on a huge mound of it that is being used to spread over the field over the road. (And it stinks! A lot! If he had crashed, the pilot might have had a soft landing, but ever after everyone would know when he was coming 5 minutes before he arrived.)

Look, do you REALLY want to bring your breakfast back up??

And SparkOut ANOTHER person who lives next to a field? I'm jealous. Best I can say is we have a nice big oak tree opposite us (it sort of shields the council estate behind it).

I didn't think you had a house. I thought you lived in an airfield full of chicken poo? Or have I misunderstood? (Under your cloak of anonymity, naturally...) ;)

...today I've mostly bin to see the show my OH has been working on for the past few months. It's a local show held annually to help support the Pepper foundation. They fund 6 specially trained nurses who look after terminally ill children, or children who are about to suffer bereavement from a terminally ill parent, so it's a fantastically worthwhile cause. The show has been running for the past 21 years, and was originally based around Beatles' music (hence the name The Seargeant Pepper Show" - this year "Pepper Magic") although now it has a real mix of music. Lots of people are involved (everyone gives their time for free)- they have the "real" band, and lots of different singers, plus a Pepper Youth band which features mainly teenagers, but some younger children too. It has dancers (adult and children), a proper set, lighting, screen, pyrotechnics etc. Outside they have a giant marquee which has food and a bar, stalls, more live music and today a magician.

This year, instead of being the band drummer, OH has been mentoring the Youth Band. They did really well, but I've never seen him so stressed before a gig (I suppose he was worrying they might go to pieces). Fortunately (apart from some amp problems, which they coped with) all went well, and the show was a success. So that's 3 down, 4 to go!! Last year the shows raised £45,000!! So fingers crossed. :D
