That sounds brilliant. Hope the rest goes well and you get the money rolling in.

One of them does look a bit anxious as she peers out from under the table or behind the tumble dryer. The other one is starting to be a bit more inquisitive.

Today I've mostly bin tying to put CDs onto tapes to go in my dads car, which I'm taking camping, because I drive a Micra, and that doesn't fit four people and a weeks' worth of camping stuff in it, and dads car only has a tape player. I tell you, the stress of putting CD onto tape!!!! Remembering to skip to the right track, not overrun one side, and add up to 60 seconds instead of 100, so that it fits on properly!!! aargghhh!!!!

The Seargeant Pepper Show
Thats sounds great, good luck with the fundraising.

We have something similar, often near to where we live. It raises funds for children with cancer and is dedicated to a teenager, of carribean descent, who unfortunately died. Evary year its held in a different venue close to his home. It may be the school, the cricket club, the social club, a church or a youth club. We have music of all genres but the steel bands are always the best. Its a real community event and is always packed out. The food stalls are great- we get to taste food we might not otherwise try and all in a good cause.

You know, you can get an adaptor which plugs into a portable CD player on one end and has something that looks like a cassette tape on the other, which you plug into your car's tape deck, it will then play the CDs direct through the tape deck... (at least I presume they are still available, must be about 10 years since a friend of mine used one)

The show is held in a local private girl's school, which has an amazing vast tiered auditorium, and the enormous marquee outside is free because they have already hired it to do end of term celebrations in. The school wins (free advertising) and the foundation wins because of the fantastic (and very big) venue, for free. :D And like the event you're talking about Gill, it's a real community thing. Literally hundreds of local people are involved. It's a real feel good thing to do. The only trouble is (as with all charity fundraising) once people realise you have a talent they can tap into*, you get asked to do more and more. OH's been pretty well flat out with it for the past few months.

*Which is why I'm lying low, otherwise I'll get drawn in as well. I seem to have this inability to say "NO". But then you knew that.

Yip I've got one of these. We use it for my daughters iPod and play it through the Tape player (err, I do have CD as well - just so you know).

Just put "ipod tape" into eBay. £1:50. Got to be a bargain. They really do work, as long as you don't try playing the ipod at full volume. Just back it off a little and use the car system to provide the volume. The sound is really quite good enough to satisfy even the most critical teenage requirements.

Cheers. BB.

...Laughing. My best friend called me round to hers. She'd found a load of old letters including some joke ones I had sent her over the years. OMG I can't believe how irresponsible I was!! There was the letter I sent on proper headed notepaper from her work telling her she was sacked. It was all set out like a real letter but then got increasingly silly with the reasons for her dismissal. Then there was the one purporting to be from the London Eye (where she'd booked tickets) saying there was a special feature on that day - open sided capsules for the thrill seeker (she's scared of heights). Another which had us in stitches was the one I had sent done up like a parcel TO HER OFFICE (where I must admit I knew they would all take it in good humour) which had in massive red letters APSLEY SEX SHOP. A DISCREET AND CONFIDENTIAL SERVICE. I am SUCH a good friend, aren't I?

I'm now plotting a new one, so I need some cracking suggestions please!!

P.S. I've already used the "Thank you for volunteering to help at the scouts. We are planning a trip to Venezuela with and incontinent child we would like you to help us with."
and
"Neighbourhood Association welcomes you to the area. We have regular swinging evenings, you are cordially invited..."

What else could I do? Or do you all think I'm barking and wish I would shut up?

Most definitely :D I keep the address records for those who have subs. and Scurra keeps email addresses for passwords. That's it.

I have a great letter somewhere that purports to be from a support group for alcoholics and mentions that they used to use "Fred" as an example of the sad effect overindulgence could have but sadly Fred recently passed away and someone has passed your name to us as a possible replacement. Something like that anyway.

You could send her a crate, addressed to:

Code: Select all

The Dungeon
Down the Secret Stairs
<insert her address here>
and have it labelled "This way up", "Live Clooney inside", put some airholes in it etc etc. For added effect, put a real Clooney inside. China isn't suiting him, I don't think he'd mind another long, uncomfortable journey too much.

LAT:lol:  Oh dear!! I think I'm learning quite a lot about you just recently...

SparkOut - yes, that's not a bad idea. And how did you manage to escape from your crate btw?

Don't worry folks. I'm too old to start on new victims. And my japes can't have upset her that much, we've been friends for nearly 40 years!! She's the one who initiated the idea of the "Purple Rabbit"!! (Whose term, which in our book, coined in 1973 means "being insufferably smug" has since been stolen by certain manufacturers  )

There was a man with a crowbar who opened it when I arrived in darkest China. There's a collection of us bewildered people wandering around nervously.
