The Buddha has requested that I divide up the lists into two separate ones. The approved words are to be separated into two equally worthy classes - Virtue and Merit. The rejected words are to be separated into the equally despised Awful and Horrid.

In Buddha's good books
Virtue: anticipation; apples; approved; blue; box; Bunnylump; clues; cogs; College; comedies; concrete; confused; consume; cork; dogs; fingertips; fog; fool; giraffe; questions; quiver; rho; right; Romeo; Rotas; Shakespeare; Simon; sinful; skittles; slam; slap; slim; slip; snow; SparkOut; suggestions; think; touch-typist; tough; virtuous; vodka; white; woof; worse; xi; xyzzy

Merit: hand; hardest; icy; idiot; Kevin; LAT; Latin; leap; Lee; lemons; Macbeth; Othello; Pringles; yapping; yellow

In Buddha's black books
Awful: abracadabra; arguments; ask; bad; bananas; beer; cats; Cenwulf; Cressida; drink; eat; eejit; evilkeen; gears; Greek; green; growl; rain; red; rejected; scarletannie; screen; Scurra; tarmac; tragedies; tram; trap; trim; trip; Troillus; twerp; two-finger; Walkers; WD40; weather; wrong; Xeno

Horrid: Juliet; kingsley; know-all; lump; mu; pi; pink; plums; poem; purple; Puzzlebrains

I have said the solution is at hand. In fact it is right at your fingertips - though you may get it faster if you are a touch-typist rather than someone who employs the two-finger approach.

It's a bit quiet round here! I'm beginning to think this is rather harder than the rule that the Buddha entrusted me with recently!

Anyway, I would hazard to suggest that the Buddha would welcome kevin, but would not like lee

I see that I have been put in the Merit category rather than Virtue. I hope that the Buddha would consider me Virtuous. And by analogy does that make Scurra Sinful?

To clarify my question, is Virtuous virtuous and Sinful sinful?

Yes, it has been a bit quiet here. Probably because we're all stumped. Well I am, anyway.

Novice kingsley, I am afraid the Buddha prefers the virtuous giraffe to you, as you fall into the Horrid category. (Sorry!)
Novice evilkeen, the Buddha welcomes both Kevin and Lee, as both show merit.
Novice LAT, Virtuous is indeed a word of virtue, but surprisingly sinful falls under the same category.

I'm just curious, but is there a rule anywhere to say what happens if onbody is able to guess the rule. I've noticed that this one has been going on for rather a long time and I think I was closer to guessing it before I started making suggestions.

I'm sure there's a brain somewhere which will be able to work it out, but where is it?!

Well, you're entitled to a guess. So the best thing to do is to make a guess at what you think the rule might be.
If you are incorrect, the Master must post up an answer which meets their rule but does not meet yours.
This is sometimes more challenging than it appears :D
(But it must be possible, as otherwise your guess would qualify as being correct, even if it wasn't the rule the Master was looking for...)

The trouble is I have no idea what to guess! I'm just completely baffled. Iam quite shocked that my previous guesses* have turned out to be right!

*they were pretty random guesses

You may think it could be bad,
This may be the hardest rule you've had,
But though my poem may seem worse
There are clues in this awful verse.
Virtue have slip, slap, slim and slam,
Awful are trip, trap, trim and tram,
For two words, Buddha cannot say -
Pronoun 'I' and article 'A'.
And in Greek letters we espy
Rho and xi, not mu or pi.

I have been sitting meekly at the feet of the master/teacher for some time, marvelling at the wisdom of the Great One and at the erudition of the novices. Would the master please explain the significance of the novices rushing screaming from this place? Should I follow?

May I speak quietly into the void, clueless as I am, to ask if I am right in thinking that scarletannieis less pleasing to the Buddha than Cenwulf?

Master, this rule is very hard, it is true.
I do wonder whether the following might be correct, however:

I think that it may be virtuous to quiver in anticipation.
I think it may be meritorious to leap into icy streams.
I think that it would be awful to ask about the weather.
I think that a lump is horrid, especially a purple one.

Please tell, oh Master, is any of the above true?

(PS, I am also privately guessing your answer to scarletannie will be that those suggestions will be both "awful")

I am afraid, novice scarletannie, that both you and Cenwulf have fallen foul of the Buddha and belong to the awful category. (Though Simon is a virtuous name.)
Novice kingsley, the Buddha says that you are better virtuously confused than to be a horrid know-all.

Novice SparkOut, you definitely show virtue. The Buddha indeed deems it virtuous to quiver in anticipation, and meritorious to leap into icy streams, while to ask about the weather is definitely awful and a purple lump is indeed horrid.
Please give voice to your thoughts and the Buddha will speak.

Master, I would suggest that the Buddha finds the nature of words virtuous if when typed, the first letter is typed with the left hand, and the second with the right, or meritorious if vice versa.
If both the first and second letters are typed with the left hand then the word is found to be awful, and horrid if the first two letters are typed with the right hand.

Well done! The original rule was that the Buddha approves of words if the first two letters are typed with different hands, but not if they are typed with the same hand.
The division into different but equal categories was designed to separate the left-hand and right-hand letters, and the titles follow the same rule.

And now I can get back to the College and let Cenwulf on here. I've been here long enough, if not too long.

Well done indeed SparkOut. I had got as far as the fact that it was something to do with the hand used for typing, but never thought of it only being the first few letters!
and a purple lump is indeed horrid.
No it's not. A purple lump is lovely, especially when it has a bunny inside it.

Looking at Simon's list, 'Bunnylump' is in the Virtue category. It is only the 'lump' which is Horrid. ;)
