Here's a bit of "'ledge" for you. It's DYB DYB DYB meaning "Do Your Best" - which is one of those acronyms that has become a word.Bunnylump wrote:![]()

I wouldn't be surprised if there were quite a few Sea Scots who drink a fair bit.Scurra wrote:(And were you suggesting that Sea Scots spend all their time drinking? Shame on you![]()

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
I just remembered, I meant to share this little gem with you all. I was having a pretty miserable day today, but this did actually make me laugh out loud.
One of my year 10s (pupil S) was in her music lesson . They were listening to different types of music with the aim of trying to identify which era they were from. One pupil suggested that the piece they had just heard was from the 16th century because it was sung in Latin. Pupil S replied, scathingly:
"Don't be ridiculous. It's OBVIOUSLY not that old. He's (the teacher) played it on a cd. It would have been on a CASSETTE if it was that old!!"
Priceless.
I think I need to start up a book of these.

Actually I love these comments from our small friends... and yes you should start a book Bunny. My favourite was phoning and speaking to one of my (then) young nephews on Christmas Day - when it had just started snowing. I was all excited as it was snowing on Christmas Day - and asked "so what are you doing at the moment" thinking the response would be playing in the snow, getting ready to play in the snow, building snowman..... and the response I got....
......... I'm on the phone talking to you Auntie Claire

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Now you can go off people, you know. I'm not THAT old. Well ok I am, but MENTALLY I'm not old enough to remember cassettes or records*. Actually (now this is scary) I can still remember my mum playing 78s.
...and your nephew sounds like he's got his head screwed on!!
*If I'm completely honest we still have hundreds of albums in our living room, collecting dust because the record player broke about 5 years ago.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
When I'm trying to convince older people that they have had a lifetime of 'learning new technology', I remind them of the days when TV pictures were made up of lines, and we moved from station to station by turning a dial and 'tuning in' to the signal.
And YES the pictures were all in black and white.
(Some people are surprised that I can remember this - I'm obviously still looking younger than I am

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Now you just zip it. We are very young*. (He's the same age as me just in case anyone missed that fact). We not only had a black and white tv, but it was one my dad had made out of old bits. It didn't get ITV either!!
*Well, up until recently I felt young. But having had a conversation with a young male teacher today (who I get on really well with) and he suddenly compared me to his MUM, who, it transpires, is younger than me) I now feel rather older.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
does anyone remember the 8 track. Dad had one in his car.
Also old tv's lasted a lot longer. I had a colour portable tv when I was only 8 - think mum and dad wanted me and my brother to stop arguing about the tv and changing channels until it nearly broke. Well we only got rid of it a couple of years ago. it even had a turny thing for the channels and got all the new channels too = even sky through the ariel splitter thing. I lasted about 35 years - pretty amazing.
oops now you will know how old I am.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
The first music I ever bought, at the tender age of 6, with my Christmas money, was a record of Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers. (I was only 6!). After that, they generally moved to tapes, so that's the only record I ever bought. However, we do have a functional record player, and my mum and dad's record collections are quite good. There's a lot of beatles, carpenters, abba, queen etc. that everyone knows and can sing along to.
Re: Today I've mostly bin...
We didn't have a colour TV until I was 15. My Mum thought the News would be far too gory if she watched it in colour! And she still listens to 78's.
