Today I've mostly bin.... having my second Pilates class (but I forgot to post last week when I had my first). I've signed up for a block of 6 with this very good teacher, and the 'intelligent' approach to exercise apeals to my logical mind. Tiny little exercises that target individual muscles and you can really feel them.

My 'core' muscle structure is poor, and I am careful about my lower back that can 'give way' if I do somthing stupid (like bend over a pick a pair of socks up for instace) so I'm hoping that this will help me protect myself.

Totally different subject (OK - slightly related :D ) The local NHS outreach team were doing Mini-MOT's on passing bodies, and nobody was passing - so I had myself checked. Pulse, Blood Pressure, BMI, body fat percentage. Nothing there that I didn't know about (BMI and body fat pushing me just over the line into FAT!). At least I don't seem to be putting any weight ON.

Trust me, I am NOT in a position to be criticising anyone on the lardy score. And to be honest, if my bro is "officially" fat then what does that make me? Just call me Olympe. :D

You looked great when I saw you, and I don't think you've sneaked away and doubled in size since then

My daughter calls weighing machines and scales "Liars". ie she'll ask where I've put the liars. :D

I like the sound of your daughter, Gill!!
I just call everything "the ooja" or "the thingummy watsit" or "the doobery"*. Then people don't realise just how far I have actually crept into senility (I have trouble recalling the names of everyday objects!).

And scales are forbidden in this house. Well, apart from the ones you weigh your cake ingredients out on, that is!

*I have even been known to momentarily forget the name of the company I was working for when answering the phone. For some reason the name "Luton Bobblehat Service" crept into my head and I just couldn't think of "Johnson and Partners". so I had to pretend it was a wrong number!!

A silly fact which I used to quote when I was a Dietitian regarding scales - theat if you were weighed at ether of the poles you would be lighter because of the effect of gravity a the poles - I cannot remember the scientific evidence though but it sounded good! Just as beware of the calories they creep up on you from behind! :D

They're nasty things those calories. I think it's high time someone did something to stop their evil work.

I weigh half a stone lighter at my grandma's house. And that's only down the road. Definitely an effect of the scales, rather than gravitiy!!!

bit bad really but I introduce themes at work for my colleague and I, especially friday afternoons when the weekend is near. Today's was assign a circus performer to each member of work. PB inspired me. But it is a lot of fun if rather naughty as it makes me laugh when they visit our department and seem "In characgter". The last one we did was cartoon characters like deputy dog etc. Great fun. Probably the next thing would be to do this to the government - who would we choose as the knife thrower thought....Biscuit

  I remember when I worked for a government dept. in a public office. My friend and I used to get bored and try to answer the phone or deal with members of the public in an accent or character. I remember conducting an entire interview in the style of Janette Crankie!!  (While she wet herself behind the next desk)!!

Oh the joys!
I have to mostly be sensible now that I
a. Work in a school.
b. Am old and sensible.

...Mind you I must confess to finding myself demonstrating the dance to Thriller at the end of last term to a year 7 RE class. Can't entirely remember WHY now, but it seemed a good idea at the time...

....also went to my last tutorial today. We were working in pairs and we had to go out front and explain the concepts that we were working on and I felt so sorry for the guy I was working with I actually stood out front with him and contributed. Doesn't sound like much but at the first tutorial when they said I had to do this I simply said I wasn't confident enough to do it and walked out and sent the tutor a whole piece on reflective learning and how as the tutorials were not compulsory I couldn't understand why I was being pressured (heavily) into performing in front of the class. I think I have surprised her twice - firstly that I carried on on the course and attending the tutorials after that and secondly by standing up today. I still think it was my right and anyone elses not to contribute in this way as at work there are many many personalities that excel in the different situations. For instance I would never never have the confidence to do the "thriller" dance in front of anyone.

Aw.... come on.... that's not seriously behind! These seem to be a particularly tricky set to complete as such - I have done just a few at the first stage, but can't seem to get much further with the final answers. Only completed two so far.....

As for what I have been doing otherwise today : I have just received a chunk of translation work from Germany, so will be stuck doing that over the next couple of weeks instead of having Fun at the Fair!! It's just as well that I find the translation work fun as well......

Oh I am so glad you said that - I have been concentrating on other things and felt that I had lagged. Good luck with your translations.
