we bought a Moses Basket off ebay and just got a new matress for it, and washed the covers. Thomas slept in it until he was too big (well, actually he slept in it for about 3 weeks too long, but we didn't want to have to move him to the cot!).
They are also small enough to fit next to your bed when you've got restricted space.

We've never had a hosepipe ban. In fact with our clay soil the garden never dries out.

You won't want to hear that I was at the beach today then, in a vest top and cut-offs. It was hot and sunny (much hotter than when we were on holiday in August!! Sorry and all that. :D

It was really funny. We went to Bedruthan Steps (lovely, if you haven't been, you must), and my son and his girlfriend went into a cave. They seemed to be taking a while so I went in to see what it was like (I could hear them speaking, but couldn't see where they were). I went in, and went deeper and deeper, sploshed through water up to my thighs, and ended up coming out of another cave on the other side of the headland. the funny thing was that my OH didn't know where we had gone, and was wandering around the beach looking for us for ages!! It really confused him when I came marching round the corner from the opposite direction! I told him there were furry coats, snow and a lamp post in the cave.

Oh, no, that was just a picture off the web. I don't know how to transfer photos from my phone on to anything. I just wanted to show you where I'd been! :D My pictures are usually the kind where everything is lopsided or I have a picture of my feet by accident.

Thanks eirian! I'm suspicious of something so cheap from a market being dodgy. I'm probably being too fussy.

We borrowed a swinging crib for our kids, and it had been lent to several other people. I know what you mean about being suspicious about putting a new baby in something second hand, but we just scrubbed it and bought a new mattress and it was fine.

Having my UN peace keeper's hat on. Flipping heck (sorry, this should be on the whinge thread, but I've started, so I'll finish) I leave my department for a day, have a lovely time on the beach and come back to world war 3. My manager (who has the diplomatic skills of a herd of elephants who are being chased by a swarm of bees) misunderstood an issue, blamed the wrong person, had her in tears, then shouting, her friend then got all defensive on her behalf and had a go at another woman, who then burst into tears and stropped off home. I have now smoothed the waters and hopefully everyone is happy. My ears have been well and truly bent. Do you know what? I've remembered why I prefer working with MEN. I was never happier than when I worked for a firm of building surveyors (all men), and just had randy builders as my worst problem to deal with!!!

... nursing a broken toe-nail.

I know its nothing compared to the broken limbs and other ailments people are dealing with at the moment, but I never realised how much I need to be able to kneel down and not wince, or otherwise get my big toe into contact with solid things. I can't put my shoes on, so I'm in flipflops, and the hem of my jeans keeps catching on it. Grrrr! Small annoyances.

I have also been filling in another CRB form. I now have, currently in use:

1 for school in sheffield
1 for Brownies
2 for different supply agencies
1 for church
and 1 for the new school where I will also be teaching some piano lessons.

That's not counting the ones I have had for other things that I don't need any more. It took me 3 minutes to fill in the form. I could break the world record!!!

Why do they publish a timetable and then send a different numbered bus going to a different place? They have had a stroppy email. Not as good as my earlier letter to the school, but the box they gave on their website was about 1 inch square which wasn't really big enough for me to rant properly.

Well, that cheered me up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (No, not Giraffe getting cross)...

I sent Cenwulf's letter to my friend when we were on route to Cornwall yesterday. Now, bearing in mind what sort of a day I've had, and that Janet works in my department (and she is one of the best people there), you can imagine I was initially a bit horrified when I just received this text:

"I might not be in work tomorrow. I've got an interview."

GULP please NO!! I thought. I don't want her to leave!!

I sent her a message back saying:
"Where?"
"S. Wessex Uni. I'm really excited as it's my dream job!"
(At this point I nearly fell off my chair because I couldn't believe she'd received a letter I sent from Cornwall at 4pm yesterday).

"What's that then?" I asked innocently.

"You'd never guess. An animal warden. It's so me!* The whole family is prepared to move down there!"

*Anyone less likely to work with animals would be hard to imagine...

Now the brilliant part about this is that I could then HONESTLY say that I hadn't written the letter. She's now REALLY puzzled.

I wonder how long I can get away with this? :D

You'll probably see increasing degrees of puzzlement over the next few weeks. She'll be wondering where this college is, why South Wessex and Casterbridge aren't on the map, and how they got hold of her name and address for a job she didn't even apply for.

......this evening we went to prize giving at F's school. The highlight of the evening was not watching him get a prize for coming 3rd in his class. It was the choice of music for the staff to enter and leave the hall to.
Let me set the scene for you....

It is a very old school and the hall has an old organ, of the sort you would find in a church, with big pipes and all the rest, so the music tends to sound rather grand. The staff all come to prize giving in their gowns (think Severus Snape!) with hoods flowing behind. They entered the hall in procession to "Batman" very appropriate as they looked like a bunch of bats. They left the hall to "Here come the Muppets!" Glad to see the music department and the head have a sense of humour.
