Personality test

#1 Post by Bunnylump » Tue Nov 24, 2009 5:05 pm

I've just done the BBC "Child of our Time" personality test. I think the results were very telling. It assesses you in the following areas:

1. OPENNESS
2. CONSCIENTIOUSNESS
3. EXTROVERTION
4. AGREEABLENESS
5. NEUROTICISM

Anyone brave enough to guess what my scores were? (Out of 5) for each one?

I'll wait a bit and see just what big chickens you all are and then tell you!!

Right. Since Gill is obviously the only one brave enough... I'll tell you the bit which made me laugh.

• You scored 3.1 out of 5 for Conscientiousness (low)
Some studies have shown the more Conscientious an individual is, the more disciplined they are likely to be about exercise and diet. (Absolutely no hope there)

• You scored 3.3 out of 5 for Neuroticism
(Well, OK I admit it. I'm a mess!!) :!:

• You scored 4.4 out of 5 for Extroversion
People with high Extroversion are more likely to lead risky lifestyles and take greater risks in pursuit of rewards. Health studies have shown they are less likely to get enough sleep than people who score less highly on this trait.

• You scored 4.5 out of 5 for Openness

Generating lots of imaginative ideas probably comes very easily to you. (Usually hairbrained ones??) However, it's likely that you are prone to daydreaming too. 8-)
It has also been suggested that Openness is related to a person's likelihood to hold unusual beliefs. Do you enjoy the odd conspiracy theory? :o

So basically, I am a neurotic extrovert who believes in little green men, doesn't sleep, takes risks, and daydreams a lot. Hey ho.

But this is the best bit. And this is especially for Scurra.

You scored 4.8 out of 5 for Agreeableness

So no, it's not true that I'm a grumpy miserable nightmare of a woman who whinges at you all the time. The scientists say so, hence it must be true.*

*Well, either that or I lied a lot. One of the two. :D

Well, I got fairly high for agreeableness, somewhere low to medium for neuroticism, and just plain average for everything else.

Am I the only one reading that word as NEUROEROTICISM?

Ok then. Probably not a good idea for me to take the test - it's revealed enough about me already

I only got 3.8 on agreeableness

You probably find it easy to get along with most people, but you won't be averse to speaking your mind.
Hmmm!

I note no comment as yet on my agreeability rating from stick boy...

That's probably why he's not commenting. He's had first hand experience of the neurotic bit.

Interesting test. I'll put my full result up & see how well I fit with people's ideas of me.

You scored 4.1 out of 5 for Openness

You scored high on Openness.

This trait is sometimes known as ‘Openness to experience’. People with scores like yours tend to be imaginative and curious about a wide range of things, from appreciating different art forms to exploring new places, cultures and foods.

Generating lots of imaginative ideas probably comes very easily to you. However, it's likely that you are prone to daydreaming too.

Innovators, investigators and creators often score highly on this trait. It has also been suggested that Openness is related to a person's likelihood to hold unusual beliefs. Do you enjoy the odd conspiracy theory?

You scored 3.1 out of 5 for Conscientiousness

You scored medium on Conscientiousness.

Conscientiousness describes how dependable, organised and hard-working a person is likely to be. This may be the reason why, of all the personality traits, Conscientiousness is the most consistent indicator of job success. People with scores like yours are less likely to be workaholics, instead achieving a good work-life balance.

Conscientiousness often gives clues to the amount that a person plans. You probably enjoy planning aspects of your life and may indulge in occasional list-making, but you are unlikely to be averse to behaving spontaneously.

Some studies have shown the more Conscientious an individual is, the more disciplined they are likely to be about exercise and diet.

You scored 2.8 out of 5 for Extroversion

You scored low on Extroversion.

Extroversion is characterised by positive emotions and the tendency to seek out pleasure-stimulating or risk-taking activities. People with scores like your are likely to enjoy their time away from lots of people. Social activities may well leave you feeling drained rather than energised, and your quiet time is probably where you recharge your batteries.

It may be a stereotype, but there is evidence that those scoring low in Extroversion are likely to be more suited to intellectual or studious pursuits.

People with high Extroversion are more likely to lead risky lifestyles and take greater risks in pursuit of rewards. Health studies have shown they are more likely to smoke and less likely to get enough sleep than people who score less highly on this trait.

You scored 4.1 out of 5 for Agreeableness

You scored high on Agreeableness.

Agreeableness measures how sympathetic and considerate a person is likely to be. People with scores like yours are likely to find it very easy to get along with other people. You probably find that you are sensitive to the feelings of others and that people find it easy to warm to you.

As a 'people person' you will probably be very comfortable in situations that require teamwork.

You scored 1.6 out of 5 for Neuroticism

You scored low on Neuroticism.

In the context of the Big Five personality traits, the term 'Neuroticism' relates to a person’s response to threatening or stressful situations. People with scores like yours are often seen as being calm and even-tempered. They cope well with stressful situations and may seem tranquil despite adverse circumstances.

Some scientists have suggested that Neuroticism was beneficial in evolutionary terms. Early man may have found it advantageous to live in a population where certain individuals had a high sensitivity to threats to the group's survival.

There is evidence to suggest that Neuroticism, when combined with high scores in personality traits such as Conscientiousness, can result in a powerful work ethic and a will to succeed.

Like having a loony neurotic twin with a mouth like a sewer??

I think I would probably agree with most of this. Good to know you believe in little green men too...

I scored amazingly low on Conscientiousness. Which wasn't a huge surprise. You lot have no idea how lucky you are that Gill is doing the really important stuff on the magazine! (You know, that dull stuff that needs to happen in order for the fun bit to happen as well.)

And I forbore to comment on the Bunny's results, because they didn't surprise me in the least. You can quite easily be neurotic and agreeable at the same time.
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.
All of my puzzles are simple and obvious. For certain values of "simple" and "obvious".

Embarassingly Conscientiousness was the one I scored highest on. Makes me sound very boring. :(
