I can't do the Friday as I will have to be at work (why are all our gatherings happening in the first week of a month? :( )
but ought to be available for the Sunday if people want to meet up again then.

Done that once at the 'BackPackers', but don't think I will again :(

Done that as an 18-19 year old - I'd prefer to do other things with my day, but it is the most cost effective way of simply 'getting there'.
gill216 wrote:I'm hoping on getting a cheap train fare (mbh- plan it right and £10 single is often up for grabs, cheaper than the petrol and faster than driving.)
I'm a regular on www.thetrainline.com and at 3 months ahead you can often get a good deal. Got to say that £13.50 seems to be the cheapest from up here, and they are few and far between. £20 tickets last a little longer, then the next one is £26.

Well........ I've been, and went, and gone, and done it!

Visited the station this morning with my printout in hand, and got a pair of tickets £26 each way. Normally I'd like to keep the train travel under £50, but you lot are worth it ;)

After looking at the popular chain hotels that advertise very small prices I rang Premier Inn directly and complained that in and even around London I couldn't find these 'advertised' prices and it was more like £49 outside or £99 inside the capitol. She 'played' with the system and got me a couple of nights at Enfield Lock (about 13 miles outside the city, on a train route) for £29 each night

My morning train on the Friday was booked up (next cheapest ticket £35), so I've got the Friday here in Newcastle setting off just before 5pm to get down there shortly after 8pm. I can get a 3-day travel ticket for £21 to start on the Saturday, and that's me sorted for a weekend break.

Looking forward to seeing you all...

I think I'm sorted too :D I arrive in Kings cross at 15.40pm on Friday 6th.

I have a kindly offer of a bed for Friday & Saturday. I dont need to be in Colchester until whenever on Sunday, but if nothings happening on Sunday I can get there late Saturday night.

I'm awaiting advice on which travel card to buy for the weekend. (Oh! and which kind of wine would go down best  )
