Re: Today I've mostly bin...
I took Lally and Fernando to their grade 5 music theory exam this morning. (They need it before they can move on to grade 6 practical) It is a two hour exam and Lally came out after 55 mins but F didn't emerge for nearly half an hour after that. Surprisingly Lally seemed to think it had gone quite well, but F wasn't so sure. Oh well, just a six week wait to see how they've done.
Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Ah! Thankyou for that info Giraffe. I have a friend doing her grade 5, and I suspected it was today, but I wasn't sure.
I'm sure they'll both have done fine. Some people are just confident that everything's gone ok, and others like to double and triple check everything to make absolutely sure.
I've got 3 pupils doing practical exams on Thursday this week, and 6 on Tuesday next week, so I'm going to have a slightly nervous few weeks waiting for results too. There's one girl I'm fairly convinced is going to fail, but she simply will not listen to what I tell her, so I can't do much about it!

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
They've all 3 got a practical this term too. We seem to have at least one music exam every session, it's getting to be a very expensive hobby, particularly as the higher grades are so much more than the lower ones.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
...Driving back from Cornwall.
I now have a living room which is FULL of my son's stuff (he's on his way back on the train as we speak - couldn't fit him in as well!!!) I don't think we can fit him in as well as his stuff. Would anyone like to adopt a 20 year old?
I made the most of my visit down there - went to the beach, and while that lot watched the dratted football took myself off for a walk and found a sea shanty display(Sherringham Shantymen)!! They were really good, although I did feel a bit conspicuous on my own singing along...

We have the delight next week of bringing our son and all his stuff home. For the forseeable future too.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
My son got a 2.1 in his degree.
We are really pleased as this is a good turnaround for him as he had struggled somewhat in his first two years.

Yes, very pleased and proud thanks!
Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Aw, that's fantastic!
I was once told that if you got a first in your degree, then you'd wasted your time at uni, because to get one you had to spend literally all your time studying, and you never got to meet the people and join the societies and all the other things that uni should be about, as well as getting the qualification. Apparently 2:1 is the best place to be!

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Exactly so!
One of my daughter's supervisors told her in her first year that she should aim to JUST get a 2.1 as to do any better would mean she had wasted valuable drinking and socialising time.
(and in his paper at least she did exactly that - in fact she got 59.5 % I think which then got rounded up to 60 and therefore a 2.1
)
Re: Today I've mostly bin...
That's brilliant news LAT.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
whee! Congrats to your son, LAT! And I'd agree, a 2:1 is definitely the place to be, although I don't remember wasting enough time drinking to justify mine!
