Wetherspoons got a bit of a hammering in Milton Keynes.

Well... my (occasional!) experience of Wetherspoons has been consistently good - including only a few days ago..... . They are certainly affordable and good, though they can get a bit crowded in central London, which makes it difficult for a group to be together. Need to time it right, I guess.

Well... my (occasional!) experience of Wetherspoons has been consistently good - including only a few days ago.....

Oddly enough - just before my trip to the theatre last night - I treat myself to a meal in The Lambton Worm in Sunderland which is Wetherspoons. Good food, and quite quick.

I picked the central table with 'the worm' going from head-hight, curved down under the table, and going back up to the full height of the room on the other end. Very Slytherin look it had

Wanders off, whistling "nobody likes me everyobody hates me, I think I'll go and eat worms..."

I haven't eaten worms since I was very young!
I think I might add that to the food I don't eat now.

LOL - I always laugh when I go to an Italian based cafe famous for their ice cream and ask for Chocolate Vermicelli on my tub or cone - their blank expressions are a picture

In any case - my meal at the worm place was mixed grill - and I'mpretty sure where each of those body parts came from

Well I know there is one by Putney Train station called The Railway - very pleasant, been there a couple of times before football.

There is also another one in Leicester Square but this is smaller and tends to get busier - I've only been there once.

OK update time...!

It's now looking most likely that we will be visiting the museum of childhood in the morning on 7th August. We will meet at the museum entrance (unless anyone says anything differently), time yet to be confirmed. We will then have lunch there - there is a cafe for the lazy s*ds like me who can't be bothered to pack lunch, but if you want to bring your own, go for it.

We will then do the gardens walk and quizzy thing which LAT's working on - it'll probably be around 3 miles, so no stilettos, MBH.

We'll try to eat somewhere NON exotic (!) eg Pizza express or Weatherspoons earlyISH to allow anyone who needs to get back not too late that evening a chance to join in. It is possible that we may stay on later at a pub or other venue (but this is not yet organised or definite).

On SUNDAY 8th August there have been various suggestions:

Kew Gardens (although this does have an entrance charge and it's not very central).

British Library (where there is a map exhibition) and then maybe Regent's Park (is quite central and easy to get back to all the main stations).

A visit to Greenwich Observatory and the Cutty Sark (again this is not particularly central, but could be interesting).

A visit to the Museum of London and then the Barbican Centre.

If anyone has any thoughts on this, please let me know. I would also like to add that if anyone else would like to join us on any part of this weekend, it would be wonderful to see you - again just pm me.

I'm not able to come, but from past experience, you can get a river boat out to Greenwich observatory etc. which might be a nicer way of getting there than the tube?

The walk I am planning will be a max of 3 miles, probably less. But depending on what Scurra has in store that may change slightly. And it does go past the Museum of London so if we do it all quicker than we expect we could even pop in there on the Saturday.

It was me who suggested Greenwich for Sunday - which is free ( ) and offers quite a range of interesting things. Although it is not central, the journey out on the Docklands railway is quite fast (from either the Bank or Tower Hill) and very interesting in its own right. People with limited time could head back home at lunchtime (depending on timing) while those with a more relaxed timetable could either spend more time there, or take up Laura's suggestion of a boat trip back up the river to central London and take it from there.....

On the other hand, either the British Library or the Museum of London are fascinating and very central for those needing to be within reach of Euston, Kings Cross, Paddington etc...

You didn't have a stick with you at Reading, did you? If you did I missed it - such a shame because I could have used it to gently prod Scurra into the Lake... Anyway, it looks like I've got to bring a hat now. Maybe I should bring a deadly spinning bowler hat, what do you think?
