Re: Weather / Traffic Reports Please
Why has she iced her patio furniture?
We only have a couple of centimetres here. Hoping it's the same in Milton Keynes (I'm going Christmas shopping there today!!)

I have it on good authority that Milton Keynes hasn't had much at all.

Re: Weather / Traffic Reports Please
A bit more snow overnight, and the car temperature guage was showing -14 on the way to work this morning. That's a first for me Walking down our street to where I'm parking the car [on the main road] it felt beautifully crisp and clear - nothing like the -8 which was the first reading when I'd got in the car.
VERY slow on the roads - a number of accidents in black-ice situations. Max temperature predicted for the day is -1.
Went out to the car last night, and just as I opened the door the neighbour's full roof of snow decided it had had enough of being up there and avalanched down into the front garden. Very impressive to see, but I'm now worried about our roof-full of heavy snow. [Old extension on the front, and plastic roofed lean-to extension on the back - what damage is all that weight of snow going to cause if it decends en-mass?]
Wish I had shares in a guttering company - they're going to be busy in the new year

Re: Weather / Traffic Reports Please
This is getting a bit mad now. We had -14 last night and a high today of -7. AND. It's snowing again. Right now . It wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't running out of oil. 40 gallons left according to a meter, which I don't trust at all. My oil supplier tells me that the lorries can't get through until week after next (they are so far behind) but if I can get to the depot I can by as many 25L cans as I want. How does that work??? They can't get to me, with big heavy lorries but I can somehow get to them when I can't get the car up the hill. Aarrggghh
Luckily I have a fair bit of wood in the stable from this summers tree cull. So, for now, heating OFF open fires ON burning a mix of wood and coal.
Hmmm. The next few days could be interesting. Tomorrow will deffo be spent in the stable cutting up the rest of the summer wood with my trusty chainsaw.
COLD. BB.

BB I hope you manage to stay warm. It;s snowing here tonight too.
I'm just hoping it warms up before a week on Monday when we have been told we will be without electricity for the day. I will be left with one gas fire to heat the house. The gas heating won't work without electricity, I won't be able to cook a hot meal and it is the first day of F's Christmas school holiday so he will be completely without his usual sources of entertainment.

I'm in too minds as to whether to send F to a friend's house for the day, or force him to endure non-electronic life!

Re: Weather / Traffic Reports Please
Sorry I forgot to mention. I saw the COOLEST thing ever yesterday. A POLICE TRACTOR. I kid you not. It was a huge Jonh Deer type thing, with the 4 big wheels. It was blue with chequres on the side and back and it had a complete blue light set on top. It was even being driven by a Plod in full Hi-Viz police garb. He was the only thing moving in the village and was doing his best to drive on all the snow ridges etc.
However, tonights conditions do seem to indicate he was wasting his time.
Whatever, I want one.

Re: Weather / Traffic Reports Please
How cool is that?
My cousin has a John Deere tractor ( he uses it in the summer to help with harvesting). He is also a landrover mechanic, and LOVES all "boys toys". Hence he rents out most of the field he owns for sheep but keeps a big bit to play in. He has things like quad bikes and all sorts. Oh, and a speedboat which someone sold him for £200 (because they thought it was irreparable) and he had it going within 20 minutes. GREAT fun!! (I just know you'd love it, BB!!)

Re: Weather / Traffic Reports Please
I saw the stupidest thing ever yesterday. Next door neighbour passed her driving test only a month ago and she'd slid past her house (and ours, and was blocking the next drive. ) and left her car angled into the kerb overnight.
Her eldest was digging out around her and OH went out to offer his experience. He got a grip on the road and just as he got to the bend the snow plough came up the hill (not shifting any snow at all!!!!) and wasnt stopping for anyone even though he could see what was going on and didnt have right of way. OH had to stop -and of course slid backwards and had to start over again.

Re: Weather / Traffic Reports Please
My best snowy moment so far was when I was on my way to teach a piano lesson on Thursday. All the schools are closed, so there were gangs of teenagers with nothing better to do, chucking snowballs at passing cars. How satisfying when the branch above their heads suddenly dropped all it's snow on them!!!!
Re: Weather / Traffic Reports Please
OH saw a quadbike with snow plough attachment on the TV the other day and said it was exactly what he needed for the office car park! Boys and their toys.

Re: Weather / Traffic Reports Please
Chaos reigns. Another dump of snow on top of the ice and snow from last week. KIlbowie Road closed which is the main rd through Clydebank. M8 which runs between Glasgow and Edinburgh also gridlocked and ungritted! Glasgow airport closed. My road is all iced up and my path so far has used up 3 bags of salt!

Re: Weather / Traffic Reports Please
The snow in our road turned to slush at the weekend, but has now refrozen into a think lumpy layer of ice. Today it didn't get above -2 degrees here and was snowing lightly again at lunchtime.
