Today I have been to the Holocaust Memorial Day in a synagogue in Northwood with a school trip. This time they had an 82 year old holocaust survivor speaking to the children. It was shocking, distressing and bizarrely uplifting listening to him talk. He had been in a Ghetto in Poland, then transported in a cattle truck to Birkenau concentration camp. He described how he had been starved so badly for so many years and was so dehumanised and so weak that he found himself wishing that someone in the cattle train would die so that he could sit down. (They were so closely jammed in). He also described how when they reached the camp, the soldiers were splitting up mothers and babes in arms, and if the mothers refused, they babies were shot in their mother's view. He told us how he had escaped from the back of a truck which was taking people off "to work" because, at the age of 12, he realised that all the people who were getting in the truck were too young, to sick, too old or disabled, so wouldn't be able to work. All the people who went in the truck were gassed. He described watching boys being hung publicly because they had been caught stealing potatoes when they were starving. He told us that he had been forced to walk 15 kilometres whilst suffering from typhoid.

BUT he then told us about being liberated by the British soldiers, and about being brought to England, where he met back up with some of his "family" (the other boys who had been taken with him). He said how he now has a family and a happy life, and he spends 3 days a week talking to school children about his experiences because he wants to spread the message that "you should not hate, and you can stop things happening if you are prepared to stand up to bullies / evil.

This is a link to a clip of him talking about the message he is trying to spread and why, about ten years ago. It is certainly thought provoking and humbling.http://hmd.org.uk/resources/films/hmd09-ziggy-shipper

 Don't dare show that to my son, it'd give him ideas. He used up an entire roll of duct tape when he found this...http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Duct-Tape-Wallet It actually looked brilliant when he'd done it! And yes, he would be stupid enough to gaffer tape one of his friends to a wall.

You think it would be a good plan for me to introduce the two of YOU?? You're as bad as each other. Come to that, he'd probably lead YOU up some very weird and wonderful paths... When Dibble left school and got the "year book", he had been awarded the title of "Most crazy funny guy" or something equally daft. What does that tell you?

Receiving my lovely new magazine, thank you. Looks great, as usual. Unfortunately I don't have any time to LOOK at it right now. :|

Having a camera fiasco. I need to send someone a photograph who doesn't have a camera phone. I thought that it would be easy- take the photo on my camera and download it and send it by email.

Except neither of us can find the camera leads so thats out.

I have 4 cameras. 1 is in the caravan and 1 uses film so they are out. Both digi cameras needed new batteries so I went and got some for the better of the them. Only to discover its broken! Back out for different sized batteries for the remaining camers. Took the photo, found the lead and tried to download it. Now my laptop is saying that its not plug and play and I cant find drivers for it. All I get is drivers not available. Time to give up I think.

Do you maybe, by any chance, have a card-reader slot on you computer? It might be possible to take the memory card out of the camera and insert into the computer where you can browse the images in folders on the card just like you can on the computer hard disk, without needing any drivers at all. (At least none that wouldn't be automagic.)

I have an individual card reader. This is going to sound really mad but I cant find a card in the camera. I thought there had to be one but if it has got one I'm blowed if I can find it!!!!

Edit: You prompted me to look again Sparkout. The card is in the battery compartment and I have to take the batteries out to see it  Sorted!
