I'm so glad to hear you say that you find the idea of stuffing zebras surreal, Spiderman, because you have your feet so firmly fixed in reality (apart from when you are swinging from building to building on a spider thread, that is.)

LAT would you like to stuff a tortoise? I have one who is driving me demented, and he only woke up this week. He's such an escape artist!! It doesn't matter what barricades I put up, I keep seeing a smug looking tortoise stomping into my living room!! Mind you, he spent all of last night on his back with his legs waving in the air because he tried to climb up the side of a box which is about a foot high (he's about 3"" tall.) Mind you, it did make me laugh, I was berating him about how early he woke up, by holding him by the living room window and showing him the snow outside when the postman came up our drive. He saw me telling a tortoise off and ran away.

Our niece had an unusual wedding cake - several of the layers were different round cheeses but it was decorated with fruits, flowers and sweets and looked great. Tasted pretty good too!

I'm a bit concerned, since Victoria sponges don't last that long before they go dry. So I'm wondering about Madeira cake, possibly. The other thing which worries me is the transportation to Royston, without refrigeration, in July (she wants cream and jam in it). Oh, and will it require some structural support? What if the fruit all falls off, or gets squished? Will the cake be dense enough to support all the other layers? Will our ovens be big enough to accommodate the largest cake?

No, I have no worries or concerns whatsoever about this project...

The one I was thinking of was on the Wednesday game (The one that kept crashing) and after the fun was over Rhysy posted something about animals in the boat. He had missed the point that we were talking about an ark and seemed to think we were talking about a dinghy. I said that if you put two elephants in a dinghy there wouldn't be much room for the giraffes. I think the thread you are referring to was a result of the aftermath to the Wednesday game.

That was a different day Cenwulf. Rhysy was the instigator of the dinghy conversation and Giraffe came out with that all time classic classic of no room for giraffes if he put 2 elephants into the dinghy first.

Everything else went straight over his head.

I'm just gobsmacked that CW can remember the exact comments on the game!! I think this was shortly before I materialised on DVP. I remember I was going through the threads trying to follow how to do puzzles (before I ever spoke to anyone) and got absorbed in all the hysterical comments. The personalities of all the different people on there shone through so clearly that after a few days of "trolling" I felt like I knew you all intimately. Then found myself joining in with a conversation like I'd been there all the time and having a few people saying "who they heck are you and where did you spring from??"

...Walking along the canal with my mate to Berkhamsted, having a nice lunch in The Boat pub (by the canal) then going to see the film of Les Miserables at the Rex. It's ridiculous, the cinema is lovely (art deco, sumptuous, comfy seats, and so much leg room that even I (with a 34 inch inside leg) could stretch my legs out straight in front of me without touching the seat of the person in front; the sound quality and sharpness of image are noticeably superior) YET it only costs £5 for a seat on a Saturday, whereas the revolting "wallyworld" cinema, which looks like a tatty battenburg cake, has uncomfortable, squashed in seats, and is freezing cold, is full of chavs, and has horrible, distorted sound, costs anything up to £9 45 for a ticket!!! What's that all about???

Anyway, I digress. I am a hater of musicals in general, I find I can't take them seriously, and the fact that people are unnecessarily singing the lines detracts from the story for me. This was no exception, BUT the actual film itself was well done, and I thought Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman were both very good (and actually quite reasonable singers). Some of the scenes were quite breathtaking (especially the chain gang pulling the boat in at the beginning.) The person who really spoiled it for me was Russell Crowe - although his singing voice was surprisingly good, he was obviously concentrating on that far more than his wooden acting. The fact that the director chose to record the actors singing AS THEY ACTED, and added the orchestra on later, was surprisingly effective.

But all in all, if you haven't already seen it, I would probably recommend it as a film. I also enjoyed my lunch at The Boat and would recommend that too if you happen to be passing.

I DO like musicals, but for some reason Les Mis has never appealed to me. Not likely to see it in any format. Glad you've got a good place to watch your pictures though

We did one of those treasure trails like the Bourton on the Water one. It was at Wolseley Bridge Wildlife centre.

Was it worth doing? Did you manage to follow the clues?

We got all the answers. We had a couple wrong, but went back and sorted them out. It wasn't a murder mystery, but a treasure hunt, there was a map with 21 places named, and you had to eliminate one at each place. It was quite confusing at times, but once we realised that a lot of the answers were on little plaques on benches ( "In memory of XXXX who was an angel" etc.) we started to get the hang of what was happening. Once or twice I thought we would have to give up on a clue and text the cheatline, but we got there in the end. I would recommend it to others. I don't think we would have wanted to be outside much longer at this time of year.
