Interesting idea but I'm not sure if that would work in China. For a start my written Chinese is non-existant!
Anyway it's all academic now as I wouldn't get anything to her before she leaves. She will come back to Christmas presents, followed by some Easter chocs and then her birthday presents. :D It could be a confusing day for her!

You know, the one of her in her little red and yellow car...

I'm assuming that IS the one you drive to work, LAT?

I'd love to have a car like that. Sadly mine is rather more boring.
Remind me one day though to dig out the photo of me, aged about 5 dressed up as Noddy!

Now what I'd REALLY like to see would be a photo of you dressed as Noddy aged 50.

PS I'm contemplating doing the school sponsored walk dressed as Robin, as in Batman. What do you think?

Go for it!

There is no picture of me aged 50 dressed as Noddy. In fact I'm not sure there are any pictures of me aged 50 at all. :?

I'd love to live that long!! But frankly, the rate I'm disintegrating, I'll be lucky to reach 60...

Gosh I get depressed at all these reports about how many people alive today will reach 100. I can't imagine having to go on that long. :(

I find myself being surprised by the Radio 4 show that gives tributes to famous people who have died that week. [Last Words?] The surprise comes when a name comes up that had avoided the news and I didn't realize was actually still around.

It was a week or two ago we lost Esther Williams aged 91. Obviously I knew her films, but thought it a bygone era and she would have been gone. Not as long ago as I thought, obviously.

Yeah, that's a great show, isn't it? I especially like the way they try to treat everyone pretty much the same (OK, so you have to have been famous enough to justify an obituary in the first place, but even so...)

Yes I like that programme. I also enjoy the obituaries in The Week which often have some gems on people I'd never heard of but who have lived really interesting lives.

Do you ever find yourself wondering what people might say about you in an obituary / eulogy? I do. Mind you, I think D's Dad had the right idea (although it did freak me out at the time.) He had advanced Parkinson's disease, and I used to go over to make sure he had enough dinners etc. which were easy for him to warm up. One day, he asked me "Would you be able to type something for me, if I dictate it, please?" I said, yes, of course. As you can imagine, I was pretty gobsmacked when he said he wanted me to type up the announcement he wanted to go in the Dundee newspaper when he died. :? But I did it, and when he passed away several months later, D and his sisters found it a really useful reference point, giving information about the things he had felt were his major life achievements.

Although I think I'd just like to be remembered as someone who laughed a lot.

My friend's mum is still going strong, a couple of years after she had her funeral. She didn't see why she should miss out on the party!
