...To a talk by Mark Levinsohn, who has spent his life researching and writing about the Beatles. Then, after the talk (which I fell asleep in, even though it was interesting! ) there was a recreation of the whole of the Sergeant Pepper album, which was quite good. I'm all Beatled out now.

And there I was, thinking you'd have gone as Tinkerbell... (or at least as the Crocodile. )
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.

Wasting time on the third abortive trip to a surgery where the tape drive controller has failed and replacement part has not been sourced/has been sourced but not compatible with the type of drive in the server...
while fretting about how we're going to pay the vet's bill for Monkey's stupidly clever dog who has pulled a cable clip out of the wall and eaten it, nail and all. She's insured, but it's a "pay and then send receipts off to reclaim" scenario. "Worst case" £1000. They haven't quoted a best case, but I'm pretty sure it's not £10.

£1172 sounds worse than "worst case" to me...
Thanks dad's credit card. Otherwise Monkey would have a dead dog for Christmas.

Thank goodness for insurance in the end. And obviously good old Dad!

not impressed with your vets if they expect you to pay up front. Our vet will just ask for excess and reclaim the rest - as will a friend's, who's just had a £400+ course of treatment for her cat

Vet bills are RIDICULOUS, aren't they? Mind you, so are dentist bills and optician bills IMHO. Good old Dad. Hope they sort it out quickly!

They're all like that round here. We did ask all round when we took out the policy. No vet in this vicinity wants to play with insurance companies directly.eirian wrote:not impressed with your vets if they expect you to pay up front. Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Actually, I'm pretty sure that when Janet's cat got septicaemia, she didn't pay her £1000+ vet bill in advance either. She just had to pay a deposit and then reclaimed from the insurance, who dealt with it. Obviously Kentish vets are really mean and hard-core.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
We have to pay first and then claim back. But the insurance co are always very good at paying back quickly. The vets do often help with completing the form though.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
...Feeling outrageously virtuous having been to the gym, on the cross-trainers, cycling machine AND swimming. I got dragged there by my two "children" who then proceeded to force me to keep going and to swim about twice as far as I meant to. I'm so knackered you would not believe.
Thing is, they put me to shame. K has REACHED her target weight to fit into the wedding dress we ordered in a size too small which, she keeps telling her fiancé means he has to buy her a kitten. He hates cats, but because he thought she'd never do it, rashly said that if she did, she could have a kitten. And Dibble just wants to maintain his fitness so that he can jump really well in all the basketball matches. The greatest amount of exercise I usually get is typing furiously at Scurra when I'm shouting at him...!
Does this mean I can sit on my fat rear and eat mince pies now please??

........driving back from the seaside through the wind and the rain. Set off at 9am and have just got in. Traffic wasn't too bad, but the spray from the lorries was dreadful. Home safe and sound now.

Oh dear Scurra. I hope you get there before Santa.
A friend went to Finland for the weekend with her husband. She said it sounded like a good idea back in May. I'm hoping they have got back safely today because they left their three children home alone for the weekend. Aged 18, 16 and 11. It would be a very strange Christmas if they are stranded!

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Let's hope! South West trains took fright and cancelled the trains to Exeter for fear of debris on the lines - and the ones they are running part way are having to go dead slow. They have promised they should be back tomorrow. .Scurra wrote:...not on a train. Hopefully they will all be running again tomorrow.
Of course the whole idea was that he would come today to avoid the nightmare of trying to travel on Christmas Eve hmmmm......
