Realising that there ARE good guys out there...

Today the year 11s were having their leavers' group photo done. One of the boys, who is "Pupil Premium" had no school trousers to wear - he'd ripped his last pair last week and was therefore wearing his blazer over some black jeans. His parents are NOT in a position to go out and buy him new trousers for the sake of a couple of days until he leaves. And what do you know? The miserable old trout who is head of his key stage blew a gasket and told him he would not be able to appear on the photo on account of the trousers. This being despite the fact that he would have been on one of the rear tiers of staging, so his bottom half would have been hidden by pupils in front of him.

At this point, one of the "good guy" teachers (a guy I've worked with extensively and have a great deal of respect for) stepped in. He took one look at the boy, and said "Hey, you're about my size. Let's swap trousers. You wear my suit trousers and I'll wear your jeans. Miss J (the old trout) can't tell ME off for appearing in the photo in jeans!" And he did. You should have seen her face!!! What a star. :D

:D that's definitely one of the good guys :)

... getting really p****ed off at the inner workings of the Council. They have been doing a restructure of our section and admin is one of the main areas. Their plan is to put in a 'supervisor' to manage the admin across our part of legal - actually a sort of co-ordinator role to make sure everyone has sufficient admin support and to share out work if admins are over/under worked. I'd 'expressed an interest' in the role when it was advertised amongst the admin in our part. Today the same post was advertised across the whole of legal. So, instead of being the main candidate (I say modestly), I'm now going to be one of many. Makes me feel really devalued - why, if they'd already had expressions of interest from 5 people (as far as I know, out of the 8 who could have gone for it), do they need to advertise again? Do they think we're not good enough?
I hope (well, have been reassured, but not by people who'd know) that it's probably just a HR policy that admin posts have to be advertised wider than they had thought they needed to, but it still feels as if they think I'm not good enough to do it (even though the Head of our bit had already checked that I was going to apply!)

Bah.

Mind you, this same Head of Section isn't exactly the most popular of people at the moment anyway - her PA is going on maternity leave and she's decided that me & my colleague, who are already covering for one vacancy, can cover it. That means if one of us is off, the other has to cover 4 people's jobs! Apparently there isn't the finance to pay for maternity cover, despite the vacancies...

For some reason I was more than a little annoyed this afternoon!

I don't blame you. But if the council works in the same way as schools do, they are actually obliged to advertise jobs between departments and often externally as well, even if they pretty much know who they want for the job. Which makes a mockery of all the applicants. Good luck with it anyway - I'm sure you stand as much chance as anyone else does, if not more so! :D

I've just had a WAitrose delivery, and talk about a result. They realised that as they delivered the three packets of chicken breast and three packets of salmon fillets we'd ordered (because they were on offer) were due for their sell by date tomorrow. So they said that we could either send them back or...wait for it...have them for FREE. :o :D Well, I have a freezer and I'm DEFINITELY up for using it!!

I think what gets me is that they could ringfence the top jobs in the section to just our section, but not the admin. Surely that's double standards?

Yes, I agree. It just shows a lack of consideration and doesn't show that they value their staff. But don't let that put you off! I'll keep everything crossed for you. :D

...Being astounded that Waitrose.com is still in business. Following last week's free gift of about £25 worth of chicken and salmon (because the sell by date was the following day) today's delivery (which D ordered) duly arrived this morning. As I was unpacking it, I found a huge bunch of roses. Ah, that's nice, I thought, D's treated me to some flowers. No. He spotted the flowers and said to the man (who was still bringing the stuff in from the van) "I think you have made a mistake. I didn't order any flowers!"

"Oh, sorry," replied Mr Waitrose "They must have got put in there by accident. You can keep them for free."

Well, that's another result, isn't it?

Wonder what I'll get next week...

I think they do that when you are a recent customer - we got quite a few bags that didn't belong to us and extra stuff in bags when we started shopping online, haven't had anything for years though.

... getting ready to spend what is the most gorgeous day inside. It's our last choir concert of the year - going to be really good concert, but I don't really want it to have arrived, I'm enjoying the pieces we are singing and it means the start of our summer break, so no more choir until September.
Oh, and I'll be spending the afternoon inside a cold church rather than outside in the sunshine. Although, to be honest, if I wasn't singing this afternoon, I'd probably still be inside, just playing on the computer instead. I'm such a lazy person! Should be out going for a long walk in the countryside as, no doubt, Bunny will be this afternoon!

......wrestling with some icing and wondering why I didn't buy black, instead of trying to dye a large quantity of white to a charcoal colour. My hands are nice and black.

Yup, done that . Buy black and add white icing to it to dim the blackness. Much easier.

Re shopping freebies. Tesco give you instant cash back on your shopping if you could have bought cheaper in any of the other major supermarkets. Except here in Withernsea we don't have any other "majors". Just Aldi. And the beer in our tesco extra is never great on offers. I get behind the holiday makers with cases of beer and they always get a refund. And they always turn around and give them away- hopefully to me!!!

... Lazing around enjoying an empty house. OH gone to visit his mother and 3 cheers for cub camp.
But on looking around I think I'll need to start some ironing. How much clothes can 2 boys have or need?
Ok time to move. I've had my day off. :x

Nope, I was inside cooking. :( Thing is, we had some friends round, so the evening was really nice, but I kept looking out of my kitchen window and wishing I was sitting outside on the patio instead of being in a hot kitchen!

Oh it is. Really different for me.
The odd thing is that no-one has really noticed. They have admired my hair, where did you get it done etc. but no-one has raised any eyebrows to suggest that the red is really really scarlet red. And it is. In places the grey next to it gives a bit of pink as well
