Oh I'd happily go again too. I also thought it was brilliant. And enjoyed butterbeer. :D

It's very near me (15 min drive.) I think Scurra was quite keen to go too? Mind you it's very expensive!

I didn't have to pay when I went as it was my birthday present from K & L. :D

 Well, unfortunately for me, I KNOW how expensive it was, as I paid for all five of us to go!

...Being Christmassy. Yes, you heard me right. Yesterday I decided to join the school choir, and was presented with "Carol of Bells" to start to sing. :o This evening I have spent reading "A Christmas Carol" because that's the text that year 11s are currently studying. And I've barely got over "Bonween" (our term for the amalgamation of Bonfire night and hallow e'en!)

I noticed the "Christmas" adverts seemed to have started with a vengeance this evening.

A Christmas Carol is still fantastic, no matter how often you read it. I heartily recommend Mitch Benn's reading: http://mitchbenn.bandcamp.com/album/mit ... tmas-carol

 That is the problem with being a music person in a school, isn't it? K is having the same issue!! Their school buys in one of those plays where all the parts are written out, and the music is supplied to go with it for the children to learn. Sounds easy when you say it like that, doesn't it? But as her class (year 5) have all the main parts she has to not only teach the choir all the songs, and the orchestra all the accompanying music, but has to get her class to learn all the lines and convince people to make outfits!

I just love the description of Scrooge.
Oh! But he was a tight-fisted hand at the grind-stone, Scrooge! A squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous, old sinner! Hard and sharp as flint, from which no steel had ever struck out generous fire; secret, and self-contained, and solitary as an oyster.

Are oysters solitary??

I'm glad primary school Christmas plays are behind me. I once responded to a plea for helpers to paint scenery. I had visions of slapping a bit of paint on something that had been made by someone else! I ended up designing and painting all the backdrops, making most of the costumes (including Joseph's technicolour dream coat) and making most of the props for the next seven or eight years !

  It's absolutely fatal to volunteer for anything at a primary school! In addition to being a governor, and the secretary for the PTA, I somehow used to end up getting roped into running the school fete, quiz nights, sponsored events, gardening, Christmas parties, face painting, barbecuing, making 30 snowmen outfits and even filling an entire wooden play area with bark chippings with a shovel.!!  When they went to secondary school I kept my head down and didn't volunteer for ANYTHING.

Anyway talking of all things school-related...
we have an AMAZING librarian in our school, and therefore our school is taking part in "The Big Read" this term, which is where the entire school reads a book in registration time, and there are all sorts of related activities going on, including a "dress up as a character" day. This time they are doing The Hobbit. So we now have a life-size model of Gandalf right in the middle of the staffroom!

So any suggestions for my outfit this time? (Last time it was Peter Pan!) And no, I don't want to be an orc.

There aren't really any orcs in The Hobbit (except in passing.) Goblins, yes, orcs, no. Gollum? (I think you'd make a pretty terrifying Beorn. Or possibly a Mirkwood spider?) Incidentally, I can wholeheartedly recommend There and Back Again for a very different perspective on the story, although it might not be easy to locate!

Gollum?
Charming. Now I know who my friends are...

There appear to be virtually NO female characters in the Hobbit! I've only just started re reading it. Last time I read it I was 10 years old, so I can't remember much about it.
