Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Been gliding again this morning. This afternoon I'm doing the audio/visual for a wedding.

Gliding? Wow, that's brave.

Wow, you do lead an interesting life!
I've been briefly to Sainsbury's and tried unsuccessfully to make any progress whatsoever on the puzzles!

Why were you trying to do the puzzles in Sainsbury's?
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.
All of my puzzles are simple and obvious. For certain values of "simple" and "obvious".

Ho ho!
Now I'm not going to tell you about the networking I did do in Sainsbury's.

Gliding* is regarded by pilots I know as safer than flying powered aircraft. Especially microlites, which are used by candidates for a Darwin Award.
*not counting hangliding (or paragliding)
granted there is some "snobbery" about knowledge of what aerodynamic principles keep a glider in the air and applying that understanding, but the impossibility of a crash due to engine failure, generally low-speed and less mass mean any emergency landing is more feasible and any impact is slighter.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Been visiting Burnham on Crouch. Funnily the first thing I noticed in their high Street was a clock tower. Lol.OH and I are working our way through a telegraph top 20 coastal resorts. Were hoping to find somewhere to retire. And Jon has always liked the sea. If anyone has any suggestions to add to our list that would be great.

Ooh, I'd never heard of that place. Must investigate it. My favourite coastal bits are North Devon and the Isle of Purbeck. Funnily enough we were thinking (vaguely) about getting a holiday place near the sea. The problem is that the prices shoot up just because it is near the sea.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
We ve been to south Devon a fair bit as friends have a place down there but it's mega expensive butty would love it down there as long as I don't have to drive down to many narrow lanes. Devon would be my first choice. I'm going to investigate isle of Purbeck. Thanks
Re: Today I've mostly bin...
I definitely recommend East Devon.
When we retired, we decided to avoid South Devon - although it is full of lovely places, it does get overcrowded in the summer season and the roads can get very clogged. My husband grew up in Torbay (which is why we chose to come to Devon) so we know it well!! North Devon is has some wonderful coastline, but can feel rather cut off as public transport links are not so good. East Devon has the Jurassic Coast stretching from Exmouth to Lyme Bay and lots of fascinating historical places within easy reach - and lots of good walking and cycling routes. It takes a bit longer to get across to Dartmoor, but the roads are good!
Exmouth is a thriving town with good facilities and an excellent school (so lots of families here) and a fantastic sandy beach - but not full of arcades and candy floss!!! It is also within easy reach of Exeter with very good transport links. We don't regret the move, and Exmouth is not so expensive (unlike Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth just along the coast - lovely to visit but not to live there!)
......Sales pitch over

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
The only seaside town I am familiar with is Eastbourne, where my husband was brought up. Full of retirees of course, but having school age nieces still living there I am more aware of all the family activities going on in the town. It's not so far from London that a day trip is out of the question, and there are some lovely villages a little inland from the coast.

Norfolk is nice

We like Cornwall - well I would say that as I am there at the moment!
Beautiful scenery - and judging by lots of signs we have seen superfast fibre broadband.
We've just been on a very interesting quiz drive through some lovely villages although I have to say that the weather today is rather less than delightful.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Well, at least it's also sh*te here. I hate it when I'm away on holiday and people say "Oh, but it's been lovely here!"
Hope the sun shines for you tomorrow. Give my regards to Cornwall.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
We went to Cornwall and I spent the week in Trelisk hospital. We decided to give it the benefit of the doubt and went back for a fortnight, but it rained every single day. Some days the ducks walked down the path past our cottage and some days they swam down the footpath. Not been back since. It's a long way to go to have a dreadful holiday.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
...Whereas we ended up visiting quite often, firstly because that was where my Mum lived for quite a long time, and secondly because Dibble was at Exeter university Cornwall campus (which is near a village close to Falmouth) for three years. And I can honestly say we have almost always had great weather while we were there. There are some beautiful bits of coastline (my particular favourite is Bedruthan Rocks) but it's a heck of a long way from anywhere and takes a long time to get there if you have family here.

I love Bedruthan Steps too. It's just up the road from where we are staying.
Re: Today I've mostly bin...
We went to Cornwall with the children when they were smaller and stopped at Lands End for a photo. The rain was horizontal, 500000 gallons / square foot / minute, visibility zero. Then we went to Eden Village to dry out in the rainforest.
