The details won't be absolutely final for a couple of weeks, since LAT and I are meeting up on 18th July to plan it all properly. However, in general terms, the area I am proposing is the Ashridge estate (and possibly, but not definitely, incorporating an area no further afield than just past Wendover). The Ashridge estate is nearest to Berkhamsted / Tring area. I live in Hemel Hempstead, in Hertfordshire, and I believe it's possible that a few folk may be staying local to me (Kings Langley). This is to be confirmed.

Best train from London is the line from Euston, which has stops at Apsley, Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted, Tring. There will be at least 4 people with cars, I would think, so picking folk up is not a problem. Kings Langley is just off junction 20 of the M25, Hemel Hempstead is junction 8 of the M1. The M40 is another possible route for folk wishing to meet nearer Ashridge - coming via Aylesbury and then the A41 which is a fast dual carriage way.

Looks like we are narrowing it down to meeting in Tring. Tring is on the line from Euston, and takes between 35 and 43 minutes depending which one you get. It is also a short drive from the A41, which is easily accessed from the M25 (and therefore the M1).

It looks POSSIBLE that a few people will be staying over on the Saturday night. However, the main activity on the Saturday will be between 11am and about 6 30 (to allow for those who need to get the train back to London in time).

Current thinking is that there will be a car trail, which will involve some getting out and finding things / looking at things at various points, and lunch at a pub in the middle of it all. I will TRY to think of an emergency "torrential rain and lightning" contingency plan, but unless it's REALLY bad we'll stick to plan A. I would just suggest waterproofs, shoes you can walk in WITH A GOOD GRIP. One possilble venue is in a chalk area which gets HORRIBLY slippery if wet. Lunch will be at a pub of some description - NOT posh, so no ball gowns and dinner jackets required.

And just in case anyone's been put off by Scurra and me shouting at each other, we get on really well in the flesh, so no bloodshed is anticipated.

So far I have the following people "on my list"!
BASSBLOKE
BUNNYLUMP
CHAZZIE
GIRAFFE
LAT
LOOBY
SCURRA
WULFRUNA

Plus a possible
GILL216
JILLmn
REDFRAGGLE (how are you doing on your plans, Redfraggle?)

Anyone else?
Remember, we do have plenty of drivers if anyone needs picking up. :D

Yes, I was hoping you'd be able to come, Biscuit. :D Short summing up:
no definite details yet because LAT and I are planning a week tomorrow, however, in general terms...

Meeting at Tring at about 11am on Saturday 6th Aug
Some sort of car trail visiting points of interest - finding clues etc., probably in the Ashridge area
Pub lunch
More car trail with little bits of walking
Lemon Drizzle cake (probably!)
Finish by 6 30 latest
A few people may be staying over in Kings Langley, so we might go out for a meal later if anyone wants to / is around.

Really hope you can come! :D

That's a pity, Tricia, it would have been nice to meet you. As you say, one day! :D

Clvrlad rescues you off the TOILET? :o I didn't realise you were a REAL rag doll. You know, they do make TOYLETS which surely would have been a more appropriate size? Perhaps this time we should supply you with a ladder, just in case?

And no, Clvrlad and I are not the same person. He's made of tin and I'm made of lilac fur fabric. Other than that, pretty much identical.
