And there's that famous urban myth about the pensioner who went missing and when he finally came home it turned out that he had stopped out to watch the helicopter that had been sent out to look for him... :)

In Leeds we seem to have night practice. Same time every Saturday night where we live now. Our last house was every Monday at the same time.

We just get them whenever anything happens in the area, because they take off from near here. They generally hover over the M1 when the traffic is bad too, especially if there's been some sort of incident.

We get them from the army base, and I think the police lose a lot of people on the golf course (that's where they hover). They make our letter box vibrate, so as well as the beat of the rotors, there is the rattle of the letterbox.

I've got rid of the insomniacs, so it is nice and peaceful again here.

I take it they just did the "over" and not the "sleep"?

I taught a piano lesson to a boy who'd had 3 1/2 hours sleep last night. And that wasn't even a sleep over. That was just him being on holiday and wanting to stay up late. Teaching zombies again!!!

I actually had to phone a parent to say that I was concerned about his son's dark rings under his eyes and the fact he was having trouble concentrating at school. It transpired the little beggar had been sneaking on to the computer in the middle of the night to play on World of Warcraft!!!!! (Yes, Scurra, I know what it is NOW).

They went to sleep about 2.30 am I believe, and were up at 9.45 so not too bad. F has helped clear up the room they were sleeping in, and taken the playstation back upstairs. I just need to vaccuum the pringles out of the carpet.

Today, I've mostly bin...

bemused, bothered and bewildered. And not just in a puzzles way, although poor Hintylump has had the patience of a saint with me and one particular puzzle. It's been one of those days where you put the yogurt pot in the sink and the spoon in the bin. That just about sums it up really.

Roll on tomorrow!!!

During today at work I was offered an extra evening working behind the bar - so it's been a LONG Friday for me.

Do you know what? I like sleep overs as well. Even now. When I go away with "the girls" I usually end up sharing a room with Janet. We usually end up staying up until about 4am giggling like schoolgirls!!

I remember having a friend to sleep over when I was a child and we planned a midnight feast. We went to the sweet shop and bought the feast, and then had to wait for my parents to go to sleep. After a while we decided they were asleep and had our feast, then we noticed it was getting light outside, so we crept down to the kitchen to look at the clock and it was 6am. We had both fallen asleep and not realised. We still laugh about it now 30 years later.

Nearest I have had to a sleepover in recent years has been some nights spent in Milton Keynes, Belfast and Reading. And there seemed to be some smuggled-in wine involved. :D

 I keep hearing about this. How have I managed to miss out on all the fun?

Oh yeah, I know, by being a big wuss who was too scared to meet people I hadn't met before (Milton Keynes) and by being a big wuss who couldn't fly (Belfast).

OK, so today it was English language exams. I was scribing for a boy. That's THE most difficult thing to do!! In the writing section, the only way he can be assessed for part of the marks section is for him to dictate EVERY punctuation mark, and EVERY paragraph indent...

Can you imagine how difficult it is to deliberately write WITHOUT punctuation? (No, not you Clvrlad!!! ) And what made it worse was that he didn't know what they were called. I was getting things like:
"OK I want one of those lines with a dot now / you know those squiggly things, yes, one of those!" In the end I drew one of each punctuation mark on a piece of paper and told him to point at which one he wanted where. He had great fun randomly littering them around the page...

Anyway, tonight I'm off to listen to my husband playing at the pub with the dreaded "Stanley Dee" band. No prizes for guessing which band's songs they are playing... (And I HATE them)...

It's a pity he wasn't taught Victor Borge's 'phonetic punctuation', which sounds a bit like this;
Full stop - 'pt'
Comma - 'ptng'
Semi-colon - 'pt-ptng'
Colon - 'pt-pt'
Exclamation mark - 'rrr-pt'
Question mark - 'sloor-pt'
Apostrophe or single quotation mark - 'tng'
Double quotation marks - 'tng-tng'
Unfortunately, the number of ways of doing something wrong far exceed the number of ways of doing it right. G. Kasparov

Ooo! I like those!!

I've spent the last 24hours feeling like I'm living in the Brownie cupboard. We go away for the weekend on Friday, so the majority of the contents of the cupboard came home with me last night. I have 8 boxes of stuff in my bedroom, and it all smells of glue and paint. I have a full day of trying to get the printer to work tomorrow, printing first aid record sheets, home contact lists, fire exit signs etc. There's a reason we only do this once a year - apparently it takes 6 months to organise a trip, and 6 months to recover from the last one, before you can think about the next!

Yeah, I thought of Victor Borge too. Here's one version of the routine. It still makes me laugh inordinately.
