Herzliche Grüsse aus Deutschland
....where it is tipping down with rain at the moment, which is unfortunate, because at the conference centre where we are staying my bedroom is across the road in another building  - so I am putting off going to bed for a bit and have just found the computer is free, so thought I would catch up with things. I have just been sharing a big box of Swiss chocolates with my friends, which I was given by the Swiss delegation as a thankyou for dong some translation for them. It's nice when your efforts are appreciated!
No time so far for puzzling, however.... :(

Just got back from London where we went to a Japanese restaurant to celebrate my son's 21st birthday. My daughter came down from Cambridge to meet us (then she had a party to go on to and we just came home  ). It was an interesting restaurant - we ordered from a menu beamed down onto the table as though it was a computer screen. There were also games we could play in a similar way - my son and I had a couple of games of battleships! :D

Oh, and the food was delicious too. :D

Just got back from Corfu. Will give long and tedious update when the world stops spinning... :(

Oh, and congratulations to Wulfruna. I just had my 25th. :D

Hope that Corfu gave you some chance to relax at least, before having to tackle all the tasks waiting at home.......

... down at the beach to get Thomas used to it before we go down to Devon next week. Beautiful sunshine, massive expanse of beach (Ainsdale nr Southport), lots of puddles for him to splash through. And then returning home at lunchtime, seeing the v.long line of cars trying to get to Southport... Always good to see getting up early pays!

spent the weekend entertaining - my daughter had her 21st in a marquee followed by about 25 sleeping over - every room had various teenagers sleeping over - some of them nursing a hangover the next day - the first lot arrived on Friday and now we only have 3 left. - having a bbq today before they go home - v busy weekend but she had a great time. So much organising though - i am exhausted.

Know that is over perhaps i can get back to some important puzzling - falling far behind i suspect

Back to work. Very difficult. :(

Got all the new year 7s starting tomorrow in their shiny new gigantic uniform...so can you guess who's got to help out the Polish elective mute and the boy with ODD (oppositional defiant disorder)...?

My year 7 started today. In her shiny uniform. She seemed to enjoy it, hopefully made some friends, and had double Japanese and Chemistry.

Yesterday's trip to Sussex for a friend's wedding went well, but was quite exhausting.

Gee, Bunny - they sound like fun!!!! My schools start back next week, but I'm not teaching at them until the week after.

I do have to play the organ for a funeral today. The top organist is off sick, and the second organist is at her granddaughters' wedding, so they got me! I hope I manage to play all the right bits in the right places!!!

Well they can't complain if you play them at a funereal pace. ;)

"oppositional defiant disorder" ??? Never heard of that one

I'm gathering this is something more than "bad kid who has been allowed to get away with it"?

"Polish elective mute" is a different kettle of zurek :o

EDIT: ... and written like that it looks like a Scurra Cryptic

i hadnt heard of it either until my daughter doing summer camp said one of her little ones had it - he had trouble focusing when she was trying to explain that he couldn't bite the other children ! His eye's moved from side to side - not sure if that is part of the condition or unique to this boy. v difficult thought -

On a lighter note i have noticed a lot of the boys (blokes) at work have a problem with odd - and isn't it weird that it spells odd

...........alone.

My husband went away yesterday for the weekend. My son was working last night, in bed all morning and left after lunch to go to stay with a friend for a couple of days. So here I am all on my own. I can't remember the last time I had the house to myself for so long.

That's a good thing isn't it? I do normally love having the house to myself. Well, not at the moment. My husband's out, so I rang my friend and made her go out for a meal with me (I used some Tesco meal vouchers I had kicking around). Very nice. Went to Loch Fyne and had lots of fish. Oh, and tried a Mojito in the Slug and Lettuce first. Felt like I was about 300 years old in there. The cocktail was nice though :D Now I'm back here on my own and need people to talk to me...otherwise I end up in a depressed heap.

I've just dug out my puzzles, from where I hid them while we went to the wedding. Now I'm a depressed heap. I seem to have forgotten how to solve puzzles again.
