on the subject of boys, studying and getting into Uni....
my son didn't appear to be taking it too seriously either. He did 4 at AS level and dropped one for A2s. I don't think that necessarily matters too much as long as the subjects are relevant ones for whatever he wants to do at Uni. In many respects it is surely better to do 3 subjects well than 4 mediocrely? Does you son know where he would like to go/what he wants to study Biscuit? If you are worried can you make an appointment to see a teacher to discuss it? (possibly best not to let him know first though). My son got into Uni OK but then struggled a bit the first couple of years there although he did turn things around for his final year and got a reasonable degree. He was very young too (not quite even 21 when he graduated) and I think immaturity can come into the equation too, especially with boys.
Haven't been to the cinema for a long time bunny - I could do with a nice relaxing evening like that.

I heard about that one on the radio. Apparently they wanted to call it
"WE WANT SEX", but figured getting people to give up locations or getting parents to let their children be extras might be a bit difficult with that title
[Nobody wants to know why they were going to call it that - do they?....]

That original title is taken from a banner by striking machinists at Ford’s Dagenham factory in 1968. It should have read WE WANT SEX EQUALITY – but the banner didn’t unfurl fully.

Ah yes - I remember now. They had that in the film - it's just I actually missed it because I was trying to retrieve a chocolate raisin from down my jumper at the time...

wondering about the comprehensive spending review
I have only really looked at the education part as that affects work so much and I am not sure whether it is good or bad. And what is real terms.
I wonder about the stories the press publish about head's getting 200k and also doing consultancy work to boost their income - seems v over paid compared to our industry when everyone - even md's earn below the 3 figure mark and work a lot of hours - wouldn't it be better to pay for more support staff - IMHO it is one to one interaction that makes a real difference to children and their reaching their full potential.

I'm not disagreeing with that one!!
Our head's daughter goes to our school under the 6th form consortium arrangement. Apparently she let slip in a lesson that her dad earns a six figure sum. I earn a 4 figure one...

Mind you, he has the bad heart to go with it...

its so hard - you sound like you do an outstanding job and should be at least a 5 figure sum from my knowledge via the forum - where does a 6 figure sum come from - the private sector can't stomach this so why can the public - and i bet he gets a pension too - something private sectors dont' - and is this for 48 working weeks a year or the normal term dates, which are much less. I would love to have a job that gave me 4 weeks off in the summer and paid a 6 figure salary!!!

I don't know. Still, I wouldn't want his job (or his heart).
I'm just hoping all these cuts don't impact on my husband's business as much as the credit crunch did last year.

His work for the Home Office has pretty much dried up already.

it really is hard on everyone - i can't count the amount of sleepless nights i have had re my job - i reckon there are many in the same boat - all we can do is our best- hope you husband is ok - i have found the worst bit is the not knowing - many of our clients saying they could not commit until they knew the full story (which we sort of know now) now that the spending review is out there maybe your oh work may pick up. here's hoping.

He's fine at the minute, it's just when people start panicking that the problems start! Hope your business weathers the storm ok!
Anyway, change of subject - my son's tutor was on Autumnwatch tonight ( I missed it). Apparently he was the one firing the bird catching net out of a canon...

....wrapping Christmas presents!
We're seeing French niece and nephew tomorrow, so decided to avoid posting a parcel to them this year. It seems wrong to be even thinking about Christmas shopping in October, but I was able to spend the money the post office usually make out of me on the present.
