Oh I love flying but don't often get the chance. I particularly enjoyed the flights to and from Tokyo early this year. The views as we went over Siberia were amazing! Vast frozen rivers etc. :D
And all that time to read, puzzle or even watch a film. Without feeling guilty that I'm not doing something useful. :D

I had a parcel delivered by Yodel this week and it arrived 2 days earlier than was originally quoted.

I drove to cornwall once and freaked out on the Tamar Bridge. There is no way I would ever do the Queen Elizabeth bridge at Dartford

Surviving (just) the Brownie disco! Me, responsible for 13 hyped-up 7-10 year old girls, who thought they were getting drunk on cans of shandy, along with about 200 other rainbows, brownies and guides, in the local working mens club, with a VERY LOUD DISCO!! Urgh. Soooo glad it's over.

  Oh, Laura, you have my ABSOLUTE sympathy. I used to be a primary school governor, and helped on the PTA. The Christmas discos were ABSOLUTE HELL. The kids loved it though. We had this weird mother who used to get ridiculously enthusiastic about grotto making (we had a Father Christmas grotto set up in the school office at the same time as the hellish disco). The trouble was, so much planning went into the grotto, that she'd start asking about it at our meetings in JULY each year!!!

One year, I got landed with doing HAIR BRAIDING as a side stall. Another year I got face painting. I got quite good at it in the end. I can do a mean tiger face.

Mind you, it was usually the boys who were the worst nightmare. They didn't want to dance, they just wanted to skid about the hall floor on their knees. There were several bumps and bashes to contend with...

Ladybirds keep flying out of the chimney! Is that normal?

Sounds a bit odd. What species are they? And are they flying in a nice spiral pattern?

You should be able to identify them nice and easily...

Do you know what? It sounds like a spell!!   Have you been accidentally waving a stick around and muttering something about Maisie in Latin?

I don't know what species. I didn't even attempt that puzzle!

edit: Just looked at the puzzle and I think it had more spots than any of those. I've had three in the last couple of weeks, and they have all been pretty spotty. It might even be the same one that keeps coming back?

...Making some pupils happy. After another gruelling day (8am-6 30pm with no break! :| ) of access testing I was able to apply for some pupils to be allowed to have 25% extra time for their exams. One girl, in particular, who is in year 13, had ONLY JUST been referred to us by the useless teachers. When I got her tested, she had a SPECTACULARLY slow processing speed. Let's put it this way, the standardised score for someone who is average is 100. The cut off point for getting access arrangements is below 85, and this girl had a score of BELOW 46!! She's a lovely, very hardworking and clever girl, who NEVER finishes exams. How could her teachers have not NOTICED the disparity between her coursework / classwork (A grade) and her exams (D grade)? Anyway, she was absolutely cock-a-whoop, as was her mum. And that is a nice feeling, even if it was so stupidly late in the day. :D

Sometimes, my job is quite cool. The rest of the time it's REALLY annoying. I'm like a complete zombie now, though!!

Well done, Bunny! It makes such a difference - the son of one of my work colleagues has discalcula (sp), and his english teacher didn't realise (he's doing A levels), but had wondered why his exams were always so much worse than coursework. She's now going to take it into account. (He's expected to get 3*A, but only if he gets the time, as he just can't work out how much time to spend on each question).

So yes, you do a vital job, even if you aren't appreciated for it by your boss!

I've just entered a pupil for a saxophone exam (scurra!!!) (see winter thread if this doesn't make sense), and I ticked the option for large notation on the sight-reading test, cos she has really bad eyesight and bottle-end glasses. They gave her two minutes as well, instead of the normal 30 seconds. I don't understand why. She didn't need more time, she just needed to be able to see the music, and all the little details on it. She got 20 out of 21 in the end, which is great, but I do feel slightly that she was at an unfair advantage over others. I know it sounds like I'm moaning for the wrong reasons, but it just doesn't make sense how they work it out!

That does seem a little odd, doesn't it? Unless they thought she might have a problem focussing her eyes from one place to another? I know some people do have that issue, we have a year 7 who has that problem. But surely unless you specified that, they shouldn't really have given it to her. :? Still, at least she did well, so that's good. :D

Well I can't really think beyond the next two weeks either! ;) :(

I misread the subject of an email from Sainsbury's/Nectar today

"Save 1/3 on wine and Prosecco - perfect gift ideas for your pet."

Except the - was really a + which changed the sense somewhat!
