My little duckling has just popped in after climbing. She was astounded at how well her newly fixed and serviced saxophone worked and we've just had a quick demo of "Sir Duke". She was also astounded at how SHINY it was (I don't think she cleans it much!! ) Flipping well should be good at a mere £80...

A repair and a service for £80 that is really good. A full service alone can be more than that. Just be glad it's not a bassoon, £300 just for a set of pads. (I'm hoping we won't be needing pads for a long time)

Oh, this wasn't a FULL service. One of those would cost about £250. Mind you, he has repaired the broken keys, replaced one of the pads, tightened up some of the parts and replaced the cork in the mouthpiece. So actually, that's not bad. It's just when I think how long it takes me to EARN £80, it's quite depressing. K did say she would pay for it, but poor thing has a mortgage to pay for and a wedding to save up for, so I took pity on her, as she NEEDS it this weekend.

Why didn't they give you a Samsonite?

The airlines have a company that replaces damaged cases now. It's obviously all to do with stopping fraudulent claims. Though having been on the company's web site they can supply Samsonite. The company is called K2. Ebay is selling their suitcases at about £89.

Open it in paint, then click on RESIZE, then change the horizontal and vertical numbers from 100 to 50, then save as whatever you can remember. That would come out like this. There are probably better ways to do this but this works for me.

I just open it in whatever microsoft uses for viewing pictures, click edit, then compress. And it gives the choice of compressing for documents, web pages or emails.

Mine open up in Windows photo viewer which doesn't have an edit option. I did this one by copying and pasting into word, then getting rid of all the white page.

The problem with your method, Bunny, is that your picture is still enormous in terms of file-sizes (look at the number under each of those pictures - LAT's is 20k, but your two are 200k and 500k. There are two side effects of this: people with slower connections take longer to download pictures, and every time someone does open this thread and the picture is downloaded, that uses up some of our bandwidth (of which we have a limited amount.) This isn't much of a problem at the moment, but imagine if just 100 people all looked at a picture that was 500k - that would be 50mb of data being transferred just to show a single photo!

(And I imagine both MBH and SparkOut are boggling at the idea of copying and pasting a photo into Word in order to resize it... I know I am. )

Doing the Guardian crossword, which was described as "a centenary puzzle". The clue is in the Google doodle which Giraffe spotted (too late to view that now for those who don't see this till Sunday! It's all about Alan Turing and the answers were full of computer references. However, lots of the clues kept referring to "topline", which we couldn't understand - until we had completed the whole thing and then realised that if you read across the letters along the top line of the grid, it spelt out "COMPUTER" - and along the bottom line it said "LANGUAGE".
