travelling back from the Hebrides...
view from my window this morning:
Odd to spend 20 hours travelling there and back for 3 hours on site, but someone had to do it, and I'm happy it was me.

Lovely view. My husband once went to Canada for a meeting of a similar length.
Re: Today I've mostly bin...
That rivals my trip to Orlando - flying in, handing over the goods (part of the MOD spy satellite that got blown up on launch from French Guiana a few months later in an unrelated event) and flying back on the same plane I'd arrived on.

Gosh, you all lead exciting lives. I feel like I've been a long way when I've gone to Sheffield!!!

Wow, that's quite a journey, SparkOut. Lovely photo too.
Mind you, I don't have the best of associations with the Hebrides - the Isle of Skye is where my fear of heights originated! Although it is STUNNINGLY beautiful.
And like you, Laura, I hardly ever go anywhere!!

Today I've mostly bin turning a garden shed into a pile of ash. Well, it's still embers, but it's finally done. Started at 9.30 and finished about 4.00. I'm not sure I've been this relaxed in a long time - I love fire!!!

I know what you mean. So do I. And we've still got a massive bonfire waiting to go which wouldn't light on bonfire night...

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Interviewing...AGAIN. The staff turnover in our department is horrific. But then, as the pay is so poor, the only people we end up having apply are either strange people or youngsters fresh out of university, who are fine, but of course, won't stay. This time, we've taken on a nice young lad who has just completed (wait for it) a degree in ADVENTURE EDUCATION. Well, it's different.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Getting worried, something seems to have infected me from this forum. I've just watched Dr Who...

I've managed to avoid that infection!
Although I must confess to having had a bit of a play on Google yesterday although I only got as far as the second G before I gave up as I was wasting far too much time on it.

Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Well, I don't understand very much (well, I'm rapidly coming to that conclusion), so I just made up my own story which fitted pretty well. Tom Baker was mightily weird, though. I'm now watching Ross Noble who appears to be trying to get monkeys to type the works of Shakespeare. Which seems to make altogether more sense than Dr Who did.
I think I need to get out more...

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
The school's electricity sub station exploded today, taking out the school's server, all the telephones, the heating system, the canteen's ovens, the emergency bells and most of the power and lights.
So we've got a day off school tomorrow...
...obviously, I'm devastated!

Lally's school was without power last Monday (7 power cuts in the morning) and they were all sent home. They are having a massive extension built and I think the builders overloaded something. It was off again on Friday, but only briefly.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
When I worked at the Dept. of the Environment, they had builders in for some minor internal restructuring in the computer room. The builders saw a "box", which, since nobody had bothered to tell them otherwise, they assumed it would be all right to move 2 feet. Unfortunately, it was connected to the main server for the whole UK accounting system, and moving it crashed the entire network. It took two weeks to get everything running again, so all of the environmental projects which relied on being funded had to go without money for the entire duration. Nightmare.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Trying my hand at Glass Christmas Decoration making at Gateshead library. LOTS of different techniques talked about (which put a few people off), but good help in making our thoughts come to life.
They were photographed and wrapped up to be taken back to the teacher's studio to go in the oven for firing and I'll find out how well it worked in a couple of weeks.
Only shed blood twice with tiny slivers stabbing me, and although I keep saying I'm not an artist I did find myplaying with the Paint program these past 10 years helped me out... I know a Christmas tree can be made up of triangles and today I found out how to cut triangles out of glass

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Hey, sounds like you could get a little cottage industry set up there. Perhaps if they're any good you could get some done and sold on 123Dragon's stall?
I love anything like that. I'm not actually artistic at all, but love messing about with arty projects. Glad you had a good time.
Although, having said how much I like doing all this, I do wish my daughter would hurry up and get her printer to sort out the wedding invite card fronts - she wants miniature bunting sewn across them to match the real bunting which I have in production. Only she wants to send them out with Christmas cards, so she'd better get a jiggle on!!
Bought "provisional" bridesmaids' dresses yesterday (after a successful battle with the idiots in Debenhams who were trying to argue the toss with me about the HALF PRICE label which was clearly posted on the front of the rack, and who couldn't work out what half of £99 was! ) The problem is that K has set her heart on an aubergine colour, but we haven't been able to find anything in that colour which suits one bridesmaid which is about a size 22 and the other who is about 4'6" tall!! Well, that's not quite true, we could find one, but they were £200 each, before alterations... )
