You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it.

Well, if it was good enough for Prince Albert...
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.
All of my puzzles are simple and obvious. For certain values of "simple" and "obvious".

It wasn't the kilt I was wondering about!

Goodness knows, Laura. You show me a thread that HASN'T been deviated into some kind of nonsense!Laura wrote:HOW did this end up on the cookery thread?!?!?!?!
One of my friends brought a really nice tart for pudding last night, which had pine nuts and figs in it. I'll try to get the recipe and post that here if I can.

Cue the next conversation about the tart
Re: The Cookery Thread
Be careful - I have a good story about being called a tart.

Re: The Cookery Thread
Question of the day. I have a triple birthday weekend this weekend. 8, 33 & 80.
I wanted to buy crushed ice because it was easier than bashing cubes with a rolling pin and I've got enough to do already. I asked the fishmonger in Waitrose if they sold it (because they use it for display). He was happy to give me some f.o.c if I wanted it for display purposes. He wouldn't give me it when I said it was for cocktails.
Apparently its not fit for consumption. Why on earth do they have fish laid out on it then?

Re: The Cookery Thread
I suppose you cook the fish, so it doesn't have to meet the same high standards as drinking water.
Re: The Cookery Thread
yes, and most people would surely wash fish before cooking it in any case? Especially if you are planning on eating the skin. I'd wash it and I don't eat the skin!

Re: The Cookery Thread
Has anyone ever used mahonia berries in cooking? I've found jam recipes but I'm just not sure. I have a bush laden with berries.
Problem is, I didn't plant the bush. I think a passing bird dropped a deposit with seeds in it and the bush sprouted from there.

Re: The Cookery Thread
I've never tried them Gill, nor have I heard of anyone who eats them...I'd be interested to hear what you find out!!
I meant to say - this is not a recipe, but just something which was a nice twist for a super easy pudding. I got meringue nests, then stirred some lemon curd into some crème fraiche (sounds disgusting, but actually is really yummy) then put sliced strawberries and raspberries on the top. Yum, and a bit more tart and zingy than cream.
