My friends, I thank you for your aid,
and the suggestions you have made.
Student Sparkout does suggest
two things which Buddah likes the best.
While Student Scurra , though he tries,
suggests both things which Buddah denies.

Poetry to Buddah's ears
rhyme, face, mask, flower, right, wrong, start, trumpet, cymbal, toad, frog, distinction, death, disaster, light, harp, word, camel, mule, fortune, cakes, tarts, cake, tart, fruit, task, gasp, pike,(as in a stick), flea, rod, giraffe..
Buddah's rhyming slang
tax, hard, soft, flora, sharp, begin, carp (as in the fish, obviously), similarity, absurd, guess, confess, fame, flowery, pike,(again, as in fish), different, same, cod, fly, sheep, chocolate bar, enormous car.

I need to understand my friend
(With who I share a name)
Does the Buddha favour fortune
Or does he only care for fame?

The Buddah cares for fortune,
so that with it, he may lend
a hand to those who search for fame,
for fame's a fickle friend.

I hope that the Buddha would like to eat a tart,
But offering a cake instead would be a bad start.

Alas, poor Buddah's diet is not going well,
With both cakes and tarts, his waistline will swell!
He likes them far too much, you see,
As perfect examples of the rule you seek.

I fear the Buddha has had too many!
cakes and tarts are two a penny;
However, would it make a difference
if we applied some common sense;
if he had just one tart - would that delight?
or just one cake - would he take fright?

Alas this student's still bemused,
Amidst the curious panoply
Of gifts desired and rejected -
Nothing now makes sense to me.

If only I weren't so confused
And so I seek a flowery clue
But hopefully not so dejected
When gifts of fruit I offer you.
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.
All of my puzzles are simple and obvious. For certain values of "simple" and "obvious".

Dear Evilkeen, you are so close, to finding true enlightenment,
The Buddah thanks you kindly for the tart and cake that you just sent.
You see, of those particular things, he does not care how many
are offered to him, while some, he won't have any!

Like flowery; now that is something Buddah quite despises,
While fruit he quickly gobbles up, despite increasing sizes!

Buddha has a good friend called Laura,
Whose students all love and adore her,
She has set them a task,
When they get it they'll gasp,
But in the meantime let's all just ignore her.

Sorry, poetry's never been my strong point

Your confidence is not well-founded;
Evilkeen is well dumfounded!
He wonders if the Buddha would welcome a pike,
although he's sure a shark he would not like.

Oh, English is so difficult!
It creates such fuss and trouble,
Especially when the word
has meanings that are double!
For pike - the fish - is nasty,
and Buddah won't accept it,
but pike - a stick - is fine with him,
so Buddah's gone and kept it!
But Shark he'll have, and gasp and task,
they are much more straightforward.
But neither of the students has
this time won the award.

(I'm starting to get desperate for rhymes now!)

Dear Laura, here's an answer from me
I think that buddha would like the word flea
The second word that I'd like to try
Is that buddha won't like a word such as fly

Pike's ok but Pikes just carp?
Our Laura does confuse us!
She gives one word
Second and third
But fourth she will deny us!

She seems to find
Things wet unkind,
And fishy things apalling
She liked the rod but not the cod?
My confidence is falling!
You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it.

That pike and pike are different is hard to tell,
If we are following the set rules well
SparkOut wrote:The rules will have nothing to do with the meanings or pronunciation of the words, or with capitalisation.
Perhaps the Buddha could enlighten the players of this game,
as to how we might tell they are not the same.

The rules indeed are being met, (I think)
You simply haven't got it yet!
Different and same are both no good,
And neither's cod, but I like rod!
And Nethy's right, indeed to try,
Offering flea instead of fly.

We're rushing round in circles like a bunch of silly sheep,
I'll offer buddha giraffe, they're really no bother to keep!

Giraffe, you're certainly not a silly sheep!
Chocolate bar and enormous car the Buddah will not keep.

(But I wouldn't say no if you're offering either!)
