Subscriptions etc.

#1 Post by Scurra » Sat Nov 01, 2008 5:11 pm

There is now a link to allow people to purchase a 6-issue (annual) subscription for the magazine on the main menu.
However, at present it will only work for those people who have previously purchased issue one and have their details stored on our database.
I am currently adjusting the system so that new purchasers can also get a subscription, but this facility may not be available until after the weekend.
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.
All of my puzzles are simple and obvious. For certain values of "simple" and "obvious".

I've already ordered, but listed myself as being in hte UK as per Gill's instructions. When I subscribe, will it take me back to that, or can I change it to HK? Or will Gill be playing postman for the next year?

Katsmom, when you subscribe, on the drop down menu you will find "rest of the world". There is also a button allowing you to change your details.

I just went to the main page and was impressed when I hit the buy button. You've changed my address! Wow are you all on the ball.

ok, Not quite as on the ball as I thought. I was about to subscribe, and then I noticed that the Hong Kong part is missing. There is no button to change it, so the puzzles wouldn't make it to me. Fix it please and I'll hit the pay now button.

Same here, my address is there except for SPAIN. I will also hit the PAY NOW button as soon as my country appears.

I think you are both looking only at the first page, which shows your address as it was for Issue 1. If you continue through the pages there is the opportunity to change your details. Let me know if you still have problems.

I hate to correct Gill here (she's never wrong, after all), but that's not true - there is no option to change your address during the subscriptions stage. I am currently trying to sort that problem out.

In fact, all that is wrong is that the address confirmation page did not include the "Country" field from the database. I have now changed the page so that it does - please have another look.

Can I ask how the passwords work if you buy a subscription for someone as a gift? They would receive their magazine , but you wouldn't know when they registered that they had a magazine, would you? Am I missing something? (I'm still wondering who I might torture with this)

On the subscriptions screen there is half a sentence that doesn't finish. I assume it isn't meant to be there.

How do you order multiple subscriptions? DO you fill the form in three times, and will it tell me when I go in a second time that I have already subscribed?

I'm going to leave most of the answer to Scurra because he may have altered the system. We have already sent out some gift issues overseas. A letter accompanying the mag gives details of the registration system and a password. You can include a personalised gift card for an additional 50p.

I wish I could think of someone to give a subscription to as a gift. All my friends, children and OH think I'm barmy ever since I picked up the first DVP. I open my mouth to say can you help me on this clue and i can clear a room in seconds :?

Scurra are you there? I assume silence means you're working hard on issues 3 to 6, or this just got lost in the waffle.

I am here; the problem has been in trying to work out how to get the system to cope with all these odd requests. It never crossed my (or Gill's!) mind that people would buy subscriptions for other people! (It never really occurred to us that people would want to buy more than one copy of an issue, to be honest...)

So the system as it stands doesn't really know how to handle things like that. I am trying to figure out a solution, but it probably won't be along for a week or two.

The immediate problem of multiple subscriptions can probably be solved by getting Kingsley and Fernando to fill out the form too,(and I'll send one cheque to cover it all) but if I think of somone else to torture then it may be more tricky.
