I believe that my hypothesis was correct: the Buddha favours words which contain a number spelt out.

You are correct, student Scurra, The Buddha gets even with rivals, and doesn't bother to be nice to them. Student LAT. he is far too sophisticated to holiday in a or a caravan, however, he would like a tent (unless he is watching Midsomer Murders!). Student Evilkeen, as the Buddha doesn't drink, he likes neither heavy nor light.

Student Simon has been the most perceptive, and has ascertained the rule in record time. I now pass the mantle to him.

Not that it matters, but wouldn't he have preferred the tent?

Sorry, the Buddha has reprimanded me as his messenger. He tells me that I should concentrate on teaching carefully, rather than having one eye on Midsomer Murders! I've amended my post!

I now accept the mantle, and from looking at previous posts, I am now in a position of knowing what I am supposed to be doing.

I see that some previous masters have answered Scurra's usual first question before he asks it. So I will tell you that the Buddha prefers apples to bananas, and also prefers lemons to plums.

In Buddha's good books
apples; blue; cogs; consume; dogs; lemons; questions; right; skittles; vodka; white; woof; xyzzy; yapping; yellow

In Buddha's black books
abracadabra; arguments; bananas; beer; cats; drink; eat; gears; green; growl; pink; plums; red; WD40; wrong

May I ask the Master whether he prefers to eat the flesh or drink the juice?

Novice supersleuth, the Buddha does neither eat nor drink - but he does consume.

I am sure the Buddha must be an animal lover but does he have a preference for cats or dogs

I would like to offer the Buddha beer but not skittles.

Master, I would enquire of the Buddha whether he believes that the magic word xyzzy has great power, whereas abracadabra would only be used by a charlatan?

Novice LAT, the Buddha prefers dogs to cats.
Novice Bunnylump, the Buddha is offended by your offer of beer and would prefer the skittles.
Novice Sparkout, xyzzy indeed has mystical properties, and abracadabra is a load of nonsense.

Pesky dogs... does that mean the Buddha likes yapping but not a woof?

Actually, novice Sparkout, the Buddha has no problem with a yapping, nor with a woof. A growl is unpleasant, though.

As my wheels slowly begin to turn, I would suggest that the Buddha would prefer cogs to gears.

As my cogs seem to have jammed in the off position, I would like to ask if the Buddha would prefer WD40 or vodka?

Novice evilkeen, the Buddha does indeed prefer cogs to gears.
Novice Bunnylump, the Buddha advises against using WD40 to loosen your mental cogs. Vodka is definitely preferable.

Surely Bunnylump should be listed under those entitled to guess? As she highlighted vodka in green and wd40 in red.

As far as I can discern, Bunnylump put the words in pink and green. I was not certain which of the two was supposed to be of the Buddha nature, and which was not supposed to be suitable.

As neither pink nor green are favoured by the Buddha (unlike yellow and white, which are deemed good colours), then I suggest that novices highlight those words thought to be right in blue, and those considered wrong in red.

Why change the convention at this point? (and to something that doesn't make as natural sense as "green".)
Green"ish" or red"ish" is clear enough - and as the introductory post on this thread mentions, use of colour is not obligatory anyway - I don't think there can be any real ambiguity about Bunnylump's intention.

In Bunnylump's first post, she offered beer rather than skittles. As both were coloured, I ignored the colours as it was clear which was thought to be of the Buddha nature and which was not (though she got them the wrong way round).
But in her second post, she asked about two items. I ignored the colours again, and passed judgement - one was acceptable and the other was not. If she had offered two items of which both were acceptable or both were to be rejected, then I would not have been able to list her. Sparkout got one offering right, but made a mess of yapping and woof. But as the first offering was suitable, Sparkout is listed.

But perhaps we should refrain from arguing. The Buddha is open to questions, but hates arguments.
