Re: What to wear

There was some woman on the radio trying to get people to give better things to charity shops and she said that everytime you buy a new pair of trousers you should force yourself to give one of your existing pairs to a charity shop. I only buy them when the previous ones have all gone to holes. And big holes at that, I carry on wearing them while the holes are small. I do have some trousers I don't wear, but I am hoping that one day I will lose enough weight to get back in them.

You have Holy trousers? Is that because you are a saint?

Oh I hate it all too. Looby is very brave to offer to come with me tomorrow (sshh, don't tell her though ;) )
And I too have unworn things in my wardrobe that must be at least 20 years old. I keep hoping I might get into them one day but have no idea whether they would be in fashion. :? I prefer funcionality and comfort.

Well, I've just moved bedroom, and cleared out my wardrobe. I have chucked a lot of stuff, but I have the most brilliant sweatershop jumper. It isn't any colour really, just sort of natural. I think I got it when I was about 10. Fortunately, at the time the fashion was to wear leggings and a big long jumper, so it hasn't grown with me as such, but now it's just normal-sized. It matches anything and its lovely. But I realised that I've had it for 15 years, which is more than half my life!!!!!

It's 5 am and I'm up laughing hysterically at this thread and having things thrown at me by the OH.

I have only bought two pair of crocks in the past 9 years. Shoes here are too narrow, so for me it's back to Italy for my shoes. (I have found a great cobbler who can mend old warn-out-but-comfies very quickly) I'm with LAT function over fashion. I don't buy clothes unless I have to. I just hate having those sales people chase me around the shop!

And the worst kind of shoping is for ladies unmentionables. You girls complaining about your weight! Hmpf! go the other way. When I went into Lane Crawford to get measured for my top half around 5 years ago they literally started laughing and pointed to the escalator! I went upstairs to find myself in the childrens section    Kind of puts you off shopping altogether!

ooh, Katsmom, I know exactly what you mean!
If salespeople even come close to me in a shop I just leave.
and I can understand about the unmentionables. I had to go to M&S to get measured last year - and it was the first time I've bothered for ten years - they just don't make them small enough for my usual size...

I have the "big rib cage, but not much padding " problem. I went to get myself fitted and told the assistant what size I was and she said everyone thought they were that size, but they weren't really. Half an hour later she admitted I really was! And of course they didn't have anything in my size.

I'm glad it's not just me that has these kinds of problems. But I think I probably win the prize. Boobs and rear too big compared to size of waist means NOTHING fits anywhere, 34" legs make all trousers too short, stupidly wide feet so no shoes fit, and I can't even get a hat to fit!! (Not that I ever buy hats but there you go. And yes, I am a freak. And guess what I'm just about to do? Go clothes shopping. :?

Presumably it's the holes for the ears that are the problem?

  Quite!!
But what I want to know is...why are these boys making a point of reading this scarily girly thread all about clothes shops and boobs?

(Boys, you might want to avert your eyes because I'm going to continue, unabated, waffling on about lingerie departments now!)

I'm feeling really chuffed, girls. I went shopping with no hope in my mind of finding anything which either fitted or looked nice. I was just about to slit my wrists having tried on clothes in various changing rooms (which entails having to look at myself in a full length mirror, which is never good), when I bumped into my daughter, who was shopping with her boyfriend*.

She dragged me into Monsoon, forced me to try on an outfit I would never have considered, and lo and behold it fitted, AND looked good! :D It's a sort of floaty halterneck dress in a deep cerise/purply colour, and a white bolero. BUT of course I then had to get necklace and earrings (just in case any sad boys are still perservering, yes it was difficult to buy earrings for my bunny ears  ). Oh yes, I need tights. (Never buy the things, I live in trousers). Flaming heck aren't they expensive? And if you get "tights for mutants" or whatever they call the ones which are long enough, they are even more!! Just about to go home and realised - oh yeah, it's a halterneck. :| I need an all-singing-all dancing bra. Now if there's something I hate more than clothes shopping and shoe shopping, it's shopping for underwear. I think this stems from being traumatised in a lingerie shop many years ago by an assistant. I had asked her to advise me what size to get... and instead of getting out a tape measure, she grabbed my boobs and told me what size she thought I was!!!!!!!  What was even worse was that she was RIGHT. :?

Well the good news is that they don't do that in Marks and Spencers or La Senza. Phew, what a relief!! Anyway, the upshot is that I have now spent the same amount I would usually spend on 2 weeks worth of food shopping. :?

It'll do me good to stop eating...

*Poor boy ended up hanging around girls' changing room doors for about 3 hours! He's remarkably patient and long suffering. :D

I've got back from an afternoon shopping with LAT. She did buy something but she hadn't got her hat with her so it may not be the right colour. In that case she'll have to take it back and buy the other option we saw that was in a sale so there's a no returns policy - otherwise she would have bought both knowing one would go back. I think she should have been wearing her 'wedding' hat to go shopping on a Saturday afternoon, but she didn't agree

I bought a bra!!!
Whenever I find one that is nominally my size, and actually fits, I get it, as they are few and far between. (Just in case any men are still reading that's bras, not boobs :D ) Better still it was in the sale! Result!
There's no point in having a last minute if you don't use it!

To Looby
Wow that was a result!!
:D
I'm disappointed in you LAT. What's wrong with going shopping in a wedding hat?? I have such an image of you two, wandering around the shops in the rain with LAT in a hat with soggy feathers!!

P.S I'm very glad to hear the you weren't referring to your boobs being "few and far between". Although I would sort of hope that there were only a "few" of them... :?

To Scurra -YOU'RE STILL READING THIS THREAD YOU BIG GIRL.

...although I will concede that (as has just been pointed out to me) that telling men "keep out, we're going lingerie shopping" is rather an odd way to make them look the other way. Fair comment. Maybe we should have said we were comparing knitting patterns. :P
