Phew! What a scorcher!
My son volunteered for scrub clearance on Boxmoor trust land. Ideal day to be digging bushes out, I'd say. He got paid with an organic marrow they'd grown!! He ponged a bit. :)

Daughter has been volunteering at a local primary school - they made the kids run about outside for PE this afternoon!! She didn't get a marrow though.

Husband (who, as you will possibly recall was short of business) is now working flat out. He just got home and had another call out, poor so and so. (He's an air conditioning engineer). Don't get me wrong, I'm pleased he's working (obviously) but I've hardly seen him for the past couple of weeks, and he's working in OVERALLS. :o Where's a melting smiley when you want one?

I vote for the second one, the first looks like it has just had a hot curry!

.... I've spent all day waiting in for a parcel that hasn't arrived yet. The stupid thing is it's a replacement for something that was faulty. About 3.30pm the doorbell rang and it was DHL to collect the broken one, but he didn't have the replacement, that was on another van.

I can't wait in tomorrow as well, so I hope it comes tonight.

If you've got a very narrow letterbox don't get too excited if you have a card through your door tomorrow. In your bi-monthly white envelope is a certain other item we have discussed.

Nothing exciting folks- I just don't know which of the mini giraffes may be in for a surprise so can't reveal all.

Oh yes, definitely the second one Eirian. That looks just like me at the moment (except I'm not yellow, purple, obviously).

Giraffe, instead of bringing it to the meet I put it in your envelope.

spent a lovely day in london (Tuesday) - friends arranged for us to be in the audience of loose women - great fun loads of clapping and Wooing and I got to see what it was like behind the scenes. Unfortunately my tv appearance didn't tape at home so I do not know if I am famous!) or whether I pulled a weird face!!

.......hot!
A colleague measured the temperature at my desk as 31.8 most of this afternoon. Mine was officially the hottest desk in the office, over 1 degree hotter than the next hottest. :( It was still reading that at 6.45 when I gave up and headed home.

oh what a shame - I can remember being at school during the oil crisis many years ago and it got so cold that we said that it was too cold for school (i think there was a minimum temperature) and we complained sure that we would be sent home and they just switched on the bunsen burners.

well strictly speaking there is
the workplace (heath, safety and welfare) regulations 1992 section 7 wrote: ‘During working hours, the temperature in all workplaces inside buildings shall be reasonable.’
HSE previously defined thermal comfort as
'An acceptable zone of thermal comfort for most people in the UK lies roughly between 13°C (56°F) and 30°C (86°F), with acceptable temperatures for more strenuous work activities concentrated towards the bottom end of the range, and more sedentary activities towards the higher end.''An acceptable zone of thermal comfort for most people in the UK lies roughly between 13°C (56°F) and 30°C (86°F), with acceptable temperatures for more strenuous work activities concentrated towards the bottom end of the range, and more sedentary activities towards the higher end.'
so the upper limit is 30°C
however this isnt a hard rule more a guide line

reasonable is such a sloppy word :-D

I was in a classroom on the third floor, giant windows both sides WHICH DIDN'T OPEN and a class full of 31 kids. I came home feeling REALLY ill. :(

I've just got in from Lally's school play, and the packed school hall was like a sauna. Lally was wearing a shirt and one of her Dad's ties. She was using the tie to mop the rivers of sweat from her face, poor thing. They had been told not to fan themselves as they were all on the stage all the time and it looks bad to the audience. (Not as bad as using your tie as a hanky!)

I was wondering which child would be the first to keel over.

Today I mostly bin to a client in the Hull area. On the bike. Really nice this morning, riding over the Humber Bridge in the middle of a rolling sea fret. Very picturesque, very very cool.

Rode home at 6:00pm ish. All helmet vents, OPEN. All jacket vents, OPEN. Only denim jeans for trousers, no leather (a calculated risk!!). Body temperature? Ooohhh, I would say about 703 degress. At least. Anything below 50 mph-ish was pure oven-baked torture. I never in my wildest dreams envisaged a day too hot for biking. But hey, some people just can't be pleased eh?? :D What a top week or so we have had. Shame it's going to break at the weekend.

Cheers. BB.
