I can't do either in that kind of circumstance. I need silence and bright light to be able to a)concentrate and b) see.
That's why I end up staying up all hours doing puzzles! (And then spend the following day being a grumpy moo.)

Particularly puzzles with a series of clues i.e. anything crosswordy, my dad and I end up leaving each other notes on the breakfast table, depending on which of us has got up first, looked at it again and gone Aha! before having to dash out. So I have quite often been puzzling while eating my cereal!

currently re-reading "The pillars of the earth" Ken Follett. I love that book and the sequel is pretty good too. :D
1076 pages but worth the effort.

Have you read Raymond Feist? Magician is amazing (as are many of the subsequent books.)

I'm too am on holiday in 2 weeks time and have just bought Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell to take with me (on your recommendation, Scurra). Absolutely loved Black Swan Green, so am looking forward to reading and relaxing on a sun soaked beach in Wales (I know, probably a bit optomistic  ).

I was introduced to Trudi Canavan books a couple of years ago - I've read two of her trilogies now but started with:

I'm fully with you on the fantasy stuff you've already enjoyed, and can second Scurra's recommendation for Raymond Feist's Magician.

I've just read "For crying out loud" Jeremy Clarkson. Hilarious if you have a grumpy old wo/man sense of humour.

Lots of individual anecdotes that take only a few minutes to read. Ideal reading over a quick coffee.

...Below the Parapet - the biography of Sir Denis Thatcher (by his daughter, Carol)

I've finished the were-lion trilogy by M. Douglas and also read The Psychic Piscean and The Arrogant Arien from a series of twelve books by K. Baxter. I'm taking a break before going on to The Troublesome Taurean. I wish I knew how Mike keeps finding these books, I haven't seen them anywhere else. The College library must be bigger than I realised.

You have her on a bean bag?

You dark horse, you!! You do realise that consorting with strange women dressed in purple is extremely dangerous, don't you? Especially on a bean bag.

Going back to the film thread for a moment, I actually went to see Goldfinger the other week - they're currently rereleasing all the Connery Bonds in gorgeous new prints.
Oh boy. It's a great film anyway, but I'd never seen it in the cinema before...
