Re: Swine 'flu
I must add that my dad got shingles just after my daughter had chicken pox and we were sharing a holiday villa but he had had a major operation which could have resulted in a lowering of his immune system - he is now a busy 78 year old still working full time so no long lasting effects. (his shingles was 17 years ago but still think that perhaps linked to my daughter having the virus on the same holiday)
My son is at school at moment with a couple of confirmed cases of swineflu although he did tell me he thought he should have the rest of the year off (just in case!!) - the school's advice was the same as bunnylump in that attend unless you have symptons - and a good point is made that to close schools means that teens are wandering around shopping centres. I went to Westfield in london the other day and couldn't fail to notice everyone using the electronic navigation advices - i just thought the easiest way to pass on swine flu would be everyone to touch these computers and considering the worldwide audience - even more so!!!

Re: Swine 'flu
That is a good point. I was thinking the same about kids using computer keyboards at school.

I am just hoping he will not get it or get it mildly - I am certainly not into swine flu parties.
My oldest just got back from Uni (exeter) where they had quite a few cases - the first she knew of it was seeing someones mum in her halls coming to collect their daughter and they were wearing a mask!! - break out the vitamins!!!

I have kind of been hoping that someone at my school will get itBunnylump wrote: I've just heard that one of the year 7s has been diagnosed as having Swine flu. We've had 2 local schools closed for a week each because of it

I thought it was fairly harmless in the UK anyway??????????

Yes, I think it is mostly. But I probably won't be saying that if I get it!!

Re: Swine 'flu
Cornwall, but it is the first time we have ventured there since the time I was carted off to hospital in the middle of the holiday and still imprisoned there when the rest of the family went home without me
. It's taken 8 years to venture back down there.
We definitely don't want a repeat performance.

Re: Swine 'flu
Shame really, my son's just given up the lease on a house in Cornwall (Penryn, near Falmouth) and none of them were living in it for about 3 weeks. Mind you, it had had STUDENTS (and a rat) living in it, so it's probably not to be recommended!!

I must say that one of the factors in our decision to retire to Devon was that this means we can take mini-breaks to Cornwall from time to time. There's such a variety of fascinating places and super beaches there. So have a great time
Mind you - we haven't done so yet as we are still enjoying exploring the East Devon "Jurassic Coast"!

Re: Swine 'flu
So what are your top recommendations for days out in Cornwall?
Re: Swine 'flu
Where will you be based?
We like Falmouth - a nice town with a fascinating fortified castle overlooking the estuary. Tintagel is wonderful if you can put up with all the nerdy King Arthur/magic shops on the way out to the headland. And of course, there is the Eden Project...... (and the lost gardens of Heligon if you are into gardens - the two are often done as a single outing)

Based near Launceston/Bodmin I think.
Eden project is on my to do list. (Not that the kids sound very interested

Re: Swine 'flu
I think you may find they enjoy it more than they expect - there is always plenty going on there; not just having to trek round looking at plants! There is also a good cafe - but gets pretty full.
Re: Swine 'flu
I'm sure they'll enjoy it. They are just being grotty teenagers!

Re: Swine 'flu
There are some great surfing/bodyboarding beaches down there!!
And boat trips into the little creeks and things where the smugglers used to go.
