That's fiendish! I managed 49 on my fourth go - and luck had quite a lot to do with that!!! D

Has anyone seen this site before? It's absolutely fascinating. It has short lectures on all kinds of things. I've just watched something about a man who was a "war child" who has turned to music to express what has happened to him, and something about a man who makes truly amazing microscopic statues (so small they fit on the end of a pin head). Next stop is one about purifying water...

I may never leave this computer.

Well, actually, I do remember that. But because you posted a link to the actual talk, I didn't realise what else was on there!!

And you shouldn't mock the afflicted.

I got dragged away from my interesting TED talks by my son, who's just insisted we play Trivial Persuits. He says he's trying to improve his general knowledge (He has taken a liking to going to pub quizzes, mainly for the beer...)! Trouble is that the only set of cards we have is from about 1980, so it's a bit before his time and VERY out of date!! Mind you, you never know when you'd need to know what ’svangerskabsforebyggendemiddel’ means.

Well it's presumably Norwegian or Finnish for something. But that's as far as I'm willing to guess. Although knowing you, it's probably something rude.

Yes you have. Well, I can't help it. I don't see why having a keen interest in this should be a male preserve!!

Thank you - I've just increased my sum total of knowledge - my twin sister is a maniac (or a particular sort)

I've also deduced that Danish people probably do not stutter, otherwise there would be extremely long queues at the Chemist counter.

Actually, if you look carefully, you'll see that they aren't. Quite. ;) You see, the design of a TP card is trademarked, so if I infringed that, I would be in trouble. Although I'd probably be alright because the puzzle is not being used to pass itself off as a trivia game. But don't quote me on that.

Well, unfortunately, we have to be blunt these days. There's no point expecting a strapping 19 year old to be sweet and innocent, is there? I'd rather he was safe, not sorry. :) It's difficult, when your kids reach that transition stage, to try to keep openminded and let them think it's ok to tell you stuff. I was brought up by a mother who really, truly and honestly said to me, when I told her that I was going on the pill

" Well, you won't, um... make whoopee, will you?"

I'm quite glad things have moved on since then, myself.

A couple of years ago one of our pupils left school because she was pregnant at age 12. :( Working in a secondary school is quite an eye opener, for so many reasons. For example, in the past few months I've had to deal with a boy who had just tried to commit suicide, and a boy who had to be rushed into hospital having taken drugs on the school field, and ended up nearly dying.

edit
...and I don't work in an inner city school. I work in a school in a village in a fairly affluent area.

...and sorry, off topic again.
