Re: Today I've mostly bin...
I've been out with Kingsley for most of the day, but managed to complete a puzzle while waiting for her to finish rehearsing.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Biscuit, I'm so impressed that you were able to stand up in front of people at your college, especially if that isn't your thing. But don't be fooled into thinking that I am a confident person. OK I'm happy to make a complete idiot out of myself in front of a load of kids, but in other ways I'm hopeless. For example I never use public transport ( the last time I did was when I went up to London on the train to meet LAT and Fraggle (how long ago was that???) and I was absolutely bricking myself. I also tend to beat myself up thinking I'm not clever enough or logical enough to do things (don't I, Scurra?I still think it was my right and anyone elses not to contribute in this way as at work there are many many personalities that excel in the different situations. For instance I would never never have the confidence to do the "thriller" dance in front of anyone.
Giraffe - excellent use of time then!!
Wulfruna - good luck with the translating!!
I've mostly bin... trying to find all of my son's things. Which have been spread all over the shop. Going to take all of his and his girlfriends' stuff down to Cornwall tomorrow (scarily early start

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
I found a new craft shop in glasgow ( I saw it on the net) so I printed directions from my house to the craft shop. Guess what - I got lost, so we ended up driving round the industrial estate then doing the sensibel thing - went into a garage and asked directions! We found it 5 minutes later - Google maps just kept us going round roundabouts.
Don't envy Bunny's drive to Cornwall especiall if she has to go over the Tamar bridge - I don't do bridges( well high ones). I avoid the Erskine bridge and the Kingston Bridge( both high bridges in Glasgow) like the plague

Tricia - I think google and Sat Nav can be more trouble than they are
worth sometimes. I was driving to Westfield (London shopping centre) thursday evening through rushhour and instead of taking the main roads like the A1 and A40 etc it took me through london - even went past Madame Tusards' - there was so much trafic and police cars and sirens and cutting up - it was a nightmare.

I wish I had seen your post earlier as there are a lot of holdups on the motorways. We ended up diverting through Bristol of all places. - Hope you had a safe journey.

I've got to say that I always fall back on multimap.com for my directions - then back that up with local knowledge from petrol stations or newsagents
Re: Today I've mostly bin...
You wouldn't like this one in France then! It's so high, that the Canary Wharf Tower could fit underneath the roadway.tricia wrote:I avoid the Erskine bridge and the Kingston Bridge( both high bridges in Glasgow) like the plague

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Absolutely not - I think that's the one that there is a 4 hour detour to avoid - I'll take the detour any day
A colleague at work tried to cure me of it - I managed to go over it a couple of times after that but it did not last. trouble is -I was nearly run off a bridge by one of those big lorries - so now I just don't do them if I can avoid them

well there is some evidence to suggest it improves mood so it could be
well most classical music i cant remember which pieces they used for the experiment
i also seem to remember a bit in the newspapers about a council playing gentle classical music to deter hooligans defacing its property

my daughter always said it helped listening to classical music when she was revising.

Apparently the best is Motzart's Clarinet Concerto.
Re: Today I've mostly bin...
well on my many exploration of how to "beat" dyslexia ive come a cross a few onball theories some of which could be correct one did suggest listening to classical music with one ear while studying.... apparently some dyslexics connection between the two hemispheres of their brain doesn't function well and the music to one side distracts it and makes you use the other side for the tasks...
or some such gobbledygook gok

I am sure that will help me too. I think I will log on to a classical music station whilst working.
Incidently have you read a book called in the minds eye - it is probably quite hard going. - I only managed half but it is all about how brains work differently.
A friend of mine didn't realise her dad was dyslexic and didn't find out that he could'nt write until she was an adult. He used to manage by saying he didn't have a pen on the phone and got someone else to jot down what he said.
He negotiated fro the franchise rights for a large american chain into england (some time ago now) and they agreed so long as he went onto a training session for three days. Guess what he said yes, strapped his arm up as if it was broken for the course and used a dictaphone, his wife typed up the notes in the evening, and he got the franchise. As I said this was some time ago and he is now a millionaire.
I find this story so inspirational - I hope you do too.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
That's impressive Biscuit.
I used to study to music - in the old days of putting on a record when if you left the arm up it would repeat itself I did that so I didn't have to get up to change the LP. After a while I would realise I had heard the same piece three or four times and turn it over for the other side. I did a lot to Dvorak's New World and Mahler's first when I was studying for A levels.

Well, obviously!giraffe wrote:Apparently the best is Motzart's Clarinet Concerto.
Re: Today I've mostly bin...
I can't concentrate on something else if I'm listening to any music. My brain goes into music student mood and I just end up analysing and disecting that instead. On the other side, I've spent the weekend with a 15yr old, who can compose music (and pretty impressive music at that) whilst listening and singing along to the music on strictly come dancing! She's unbelievable!

I haven't taught her. Well, I used to help her with her piano practice when she was 8 and I was her childminder! I don't think that really counts any more.
Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Can I ask for some opinions, please? I had a call yesterday telling me that a moses basket and stand had been purchased from a market for £5. Would you want to put your newborn baby in this?

I'd buy a new matress and boil the covers, but yes I'd use it after a good cleaning with a hoover etc.
