something strange

#1 Post by nell » Sun Sep 20, 2009 1:26 pm

I've just been clearing out my rather lengthy multiple sub-folders favourites bar and clicked on my old DVP link. Now the strange thing is that the last time I clicked on that link the site had been closed down. Today it was all there, right up to March 2009. Just had a nostalgic read of some of the old posts and all. :) Has anyone else tried this (or I have just not read enough postings here).

Can you post your link here? I don't have the link on my laptop. I've just googled Da vinci puzzles and it brings up a load of puzzles, some of which look familiar (Wolf in the fold) but some of them look like old ones re jigged. There is one called refinery incident, but it doesn't look completely familiar. Also there is a map puzzle of Moray firth, which I'm sure I did, but I don't remember there being three sets of clues. One of the other maps seems to ask you to take the 5th letter of something, and I don't think the maps were like that before. (My memory is really awful, I could probably see the magazines again and not remember doing them, and I don't have them to hand)

http://www.davincipuzzles.hbauer.co.uk/ took me to the puzzles

I couldn't find the forum.

Wow. Yes, it's alive again. I'm tempted to try and post something, but that would feel a bit like playing football in a graveyard...
I wonder what's going on.

PMed you the link giraffe.

Post the link on here Sparkout.

We don't have a problem with that.

Edit: We still retain the link to DVP from our front page. I've just tried it and it comes up " unknown host".

I suppose I wondered whether Bauer might have a problem with it... but on reflection

The other one was me under my DVP pseudonym, because I couldn't remember what my login name was., (Doh!)

how weird

Perhaps they are thinking about reprinting the magazines they have already compiled.

Well it was in the aftermath of that puzzle that I created the pseudonym, "just in case"

I must admit I was too nervous to post when I first found it live. Came straight over here instead. Wonder how long it's been live for? And why?

They look familiar - I think they're the ones that were put on the forum every month or so after they stopped publishing the magazine

Hmmm. Curious! I recognised the titles of the puzzles I think, but I didn't really look at them. I have far too many on here to look at!!! Will have to keep an eye on it.

I still have my original file with all the printed copies of the solutions to the books as well as the subsequent puzzles that followed when publication ended. I've checked some of the puzzles against my copies and they are the same. If you were looking at the last map puzzle (post book puzzles) then it did look different.

Nice find Nell - I've just been in and captured the "Books in Haiku" thread which I forgot to do before it went. Classic post :D

I had wondered why Nell hadn't been around for a bit. Much better things to do!
Congratulations from me too.
