Gill, that's hideous. It certainly makes you think, doesn't it? Sometimes these things are a bit hard to actually take in and believe, aren't they? I still can't bring myself to believe that my cousin's husband was found murdered in his hallway, and they never found out who did it or why. Even when I "say" it out loud here I still think "surely that didn't REALLY happen?" :?

ON A LIGHTER NOTE...
(Although I should probably start up a separate thread about "the things kids say"...)
Year 8 boy today, was asked why the human body needed protein. His inspired answer (which he insisted on having written down by my colleague-the boy had broken his arm and couldn't write) was "Because it makes you better at getting an erection."

So there you go, boys, eat less/more chicken and your problems will be resolved.

And ages ago, a year 11 (to me) who was trying to write down the physical differences between men and women, gave me a list of all the usuals, but then added:
"Oh yes, and men have hair down there and women don't."

"Um would you like to re think that answer, Joe?" I asked.

"No miss, they definitely don't."

"Well, actually, yes, they do."

"Don't be silly miss, how could you POSSIBLY know that?"

I did refrain from a practical demonstration... :?

And NEXT WEEK I've got a child development class, where they are having condoms and carrots to play with. What fun. Good job I'm not easily embarrassed, isn't it?

One day we'll figure it out. And then there'll be hell to pay

  I challenge you. I am the least easily embarrassed person in the world.
Well, for that kind of thing, anyway. Massive embarrassment if I've done something like, um let me think, posting a puzzle that doesn't work though!! (As IF I would ever do a thing like that... )

That made me think of the line in the poem IF which is something like

If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools.

(I should know that poem - when I was about 9 my father promised me 5 shillings if I learnt it by heart)

 Although I should point out that I could stick my Mod hat on and change MBH's post completely - and no-one would ever know.

But I wouldn't do anything like that. Obviously.

Gill, your poor daughter! What an awful thing for her to take in. And after all she has already been through. And you and your son too. How much does one family have to go through? I do hope she can put it behind her and move on. And hopefully with some good friends who are exactly what they seem.

OK it's just me wittering on about walking again, but has anyone else noticed that all the plants are all over the place season wise? Rhodedendrons with flower buds on, trees with green leaves, but chestnuts all over the floor, and lots of early fungi. Now that's odd. :? Also, to continue wittering about things no one probably GAF about but is it just around here that all the horse chestnuts seem to have a horrible disease? There are loads of them with weird knobbly brown leaves.

My husband's cousin is having to have his horse chestnut tree chopped down because of disease - which my children are very unhappy about as they go round every year and gather their supply of conkers from his garden.

Well my rasberries are still producing raspberries. I picked some again today. I've had about 15 to twenty every three days for the last few weeks. We are taking it in turns to have them as there are only really enough for one.

No, its not just you, Bunny. The plants are wierd everywhere, and the horse chestnuts are looking rather nasty around here too.

I've bin at the cinema watching Fame with my 13 year old and I wasn't allowed to sing the theme tune (yes showing my age again, still prefered the TV series) :(

Talking of which anyone watched Flashforward, ABC's new Lost?

No, haven't caught that one, Strep -is it good?

You definitely should have gone with the singing. It's SUCH a feelgood thing to do to sing along to things like that. And the louder and more out of tune the better!! My friend and I took great pleasure in totally mortifying her daughter (19) by singing right the way through Mamma Mia. Mind you that was a video in her living room!! After the movie had finished we were then cavorting around singing and doing the standing back to back thing and pretending we had microphones. My friend's 14 year old son came in half way through with his friends and made them go out again. "Oh God Mother, you're SOOOOO embarrassing!"...he clearly didn't realise that is our mission in life. There's no better feeling in the world than REALLY making your children cringe, is there? In fact, it's a definite advantage of being old. You can misbehave as much as you like and no one can tell you off. In fact I just got an invitation to a 60th birthday party. The man whose party it is said Janet and I were only to come as long as we danced on the tables like we did at his 50th!!! I said it'd probably not be such a good plan now, we might either break the table or possibly a hip!!

OK I'll shut up now.

its nice to hear that i am doing my job right. My son (15) got so embarased that I asked someone the way when we were in cambridge. Talking to strangers how embarassing.

He had forgotten the whole reason for cambridge was that his friend and him had lost the reserarch for their GCSE and had to redo it.

  You should tell him he needs to be glad he doesn't have a mother like me!! I have a whole list of things designed to embarrass teenagers. A favourite is picking them up in the car with the window wound down and classic fm playing as loud as possible.
