Mushy peas are more of a vegetable (although I know they are pulses before you get all pedantic) than Heinz spaghetti!! It never ceased to amaze me that when my kids were younger they would go to their freinds' houses for tea, and get things like chicken nuggets, chips and Heinz spaghetti!! I used to make a point of putting all the fresh veg that mine were used to eating on the plates of their friends when they came here, knowing full well that they wouldn't touch it. My kids were so much the other way I had to tell my son to stop eating so much fruit and veg because he kept getting an upset stomach!! In fact, he used to eat entire apples - core, pips, stalk, the lot!!*

*Yes, he is odd, just like his mother.

Now this wasn't today, it was yesterday, but we had a PINK day at school in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness. Basically everyone had to come in wearing something pink, and paid £1 for doing so. We raised about £700 for the cause so that was good. It was a nice easy thing to do - I went to town (as ever) - pink nails, t shirt, jumper, earrings, necklace, phone case and bag. (Oh and pink bra and pants but then no one knew that except me of course!!) I looked like a regular Barbie!! The annoying thing is that they have now announced that they want to have another dressing up day to raise funds for the Rock Challenge (which is a drama dance show thingy which we won last year). They want everyone to dress up in 1940s outfits. My question is: WTF can I do that won't be a) uncomfortable b) expensive c) time consuming to make? Any ideas?? :?

Would that be one of those big full skirts, or is that more 50's? 40's was wartime, so probably I'm thinking 50's. 40's would probably be tighter fitting, to use less material.

Just go wearing a load of junk emails stapled to you. You can then claim you are a can of Spam.

  David that is TRULY awful. But nevertheless easier than the alternative!!

How annoying is this? I have a 1950's I Love Lucy style red dress. But 1940s? I NEVER wear tight clothes like pencil skirts. Just not the right shape!! I suppose I could go as a Land Girl in overalls! :D

You could stay in yesterday's pink outfit and go as a can of spam :D

Oddly enough (when you mentioned convenience) I was thinking about the land girls / lumber Jills as an option.

Left speechless today! That doesn't happen very often.

I try to use our local shop- which is franchised from a well known chain- as and when I can. Use it or lose being the motto. Theyaren't unreasonably priced for the odd item you run out of.

I fancied stuffing some apples with dried fruit, baked in honey. I'd run out of sultanas, raisins etc. I KNOW they sell them but they weren't on the shelves. The very nice, very polite, shelf stacker, informed me that they'd been taken off display because they were on half price offer this week. He did go and get me some. I got to the checkout- and was handed a leaflet from the owner which advertised next weeks offers. I bit my tongue extremely hard   And no- I didn't check how much much those sultanas cost me! :D :D

Unbelievable, isn't it?? Our local shops (greengrocer, grocer, bits and bobs shop and newsagent) got replaced by a small Tesco, so so much for me supporting the local shops. Ultimately, they were struggling to make ends meet and got offered £200 000 each. The flipping annoying thing is that now it's a Tesco it's continuously heaving with people, despite being not a patch on what used to be there. Progress?

We are within walking distance of a large ASDA, but unfortunately it is at the bottom of a quite steep hill. So even though I often feel like walking I have only done it once as there is no way I could cope with the hill and the shopping. The one time I did it I took all three children and shared the small amount of shopping between us. It still nearly killed me getting back to the top of the hill. Even the village shop, which is more of an off licence with a bit of food is almost as far and also at the bottom of a hill.

I had an embarrassing incident at ASDA on Friday when I managed to park my car in the last remaining parking space, which was at the end of the row next to some annoying bollards, by the smoking shelter. When I came out I couldn't get my car out of the space, and the emploees in the smoking shelter were falling around laughing as I nearly took the bollards out. In the end one of them came and offered me her theory on how it should be done, which was rexactly what I had already tried, but the combination of the bollards and the fact that my car is longer than the space between the rows defeated me. In the end I bumped over a flowerbed and went out through a gap in the next row! I'm normally quite good at parking, but with the audience in the smoking shelter I just lost the plot.

I just told her in the first place when she said that she didn't think that she should get out that she should just drive over the pavement Mum insisted that if she got in then she could get out.

theory is so different to practice.

I have a camera in my car and i still find parking a struggle.

My oh will spend 10 minutues locating a parking place that is 1 minute nearer than the first one we located!) but i am not allowed to comment on that..

Don't know whether I'm doing this today or yesterday..... or even tomorrow   !
I've just noticed that the time on here seems to think it is still summer time and that I am writing at 12.15 am on Monday. Now I know that I like late nights (another thing that a certain someone seems to have inherited) - but it's definitely now only 11.15 on Sunday.... :?

Sounds as if you need to go to your User Control Panel and tell it that Summer Time is not applicable now.

... visiting a hill.

:) No - not quite flipped my lid yet. I've JUST got home and cleaned up after a 60-mile each way to see a local(ish) hill called Roseberry Topping which has been made into a temporary art work called Odin's Glow via light, sound, theatre, and other activities.

http://www.odinsglow.co.uk/

Around the area they told the story of the Norse Gods, Captain Cook, and St Oswald (yes - they are all different time frames  )

Interesting way to spend a couple of hours on the last day of a 4-day event.

Off to bed soon though (back go work tomorrow)....
