Re: Today I've mostly bin...
.... getting bored at work because I've not been able to log on here and see what you've all been up to.
Yes, our IT people have excelled again!. They are assuring us the current issues have nothing to do with a virus - this time it's a system update that's gone wrong!. All our PCs that have Windows 2000 on them are failing to start up - just rebooting when they get a set way through the start up sequence. Those with XP or just a network box don't have any problems, but those of us with Win 2000 pcs can't get them to work....
(well, actually, I just started mine up in Safe Mode with Networking, and have been able to work relatively normally - just can't access emails or the internet, but since I don't *actually* need them to do my job, I've been ok)

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
IT men. They really are a nightmare, aren't they Scurra?
Actually our IT men are both really lovely and helpful. It's just that the SLT make stupid decisions like "oh let's go and buy another suite of pcs without asking the IT men if the network has sufficient capacity, and then when they point out it doesn't, not have enough money left to put it right. Poor blokes, they spend their time rushing around manically trying to firefight all the problems. Every now and again I grab hold of one as he runs past my office in a state of stress, force coffee down his neck, and attempt to make him laugh, in a vague effort to avert his almost inevitable mental breakdown...
The other day I went to see them and they were sitting in the dark in their office, in the hope that no one would realise they were in there!!!

Said it before somewhere, I think, regarding a sign there used to be on the wall:

how can we give you any Technology?

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
I went Christmas shopping with my daughter today too!! Didn't get any Christmas presents, but did find her two nice tops and a cardigan, and had a scrummy cranberry cake and cup of tea in the massive M & S in London Colney though!

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
tonight I went to Asda to get a few things and there waas a piper playing at the entrance. I said to my sister - I think he is searching for a tune cos I don't recognise any of them. Now this is strange because normally i love pipe music and usually am reduced to tears when a lone piper plays. I thought your not going to get a donation...................
I came out of the shop and saw how smarly he was dressed in full Highlad dress and yes - i popped the money into the bucket - I am a sucker for a man in a kilt

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
I keep thinking I really should get my OH a kilt (he's a proud Scot and doesn't possess one). I'm not absolutely convinced he's got the knees for it though!! Also it'd all bunch up under his boiler suit so maybe not...

Your ASDA sounds a cut above ours. It has a five foot high fatherchristmas at the door that you can buy to plug your ipod into and then it dances in time to your music.
I'm so glad i don't have an ipod.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
...bin out for a girlie night 5 of us(including a mad Danish friend is over here at the moment). We've been laughing all evening! The Danish friend had a totally different outlook on life in general, so refreshingly straightforward and frank, doesn't care who she says what to and has a really naughty sense of humour.
I think I should live in Sweden!! (She's Danish but lives in Sweden).
I feel so much better for a really good laugh.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Preparing to head off to London tomorrow for the "Big Wave" climate-change demonstration. Some of the agencies (we booked via Christian Aid) have chartered a special train from Plymouth, picking up in Exeter, Bristol, Bath and Swindon on the way - should be fun! The idea is to have a long march from Grosvenor Square to Westminster and then to circle round Parliament by going across Westminster and Lambeth bridges to fill up the embankment on the opposite side. At 3pm there will be a gigantic Mexican Wave passed along the lines - we've all been asked to wear bright blue gloves (or paint your hands!) - and to wear blue clothes as far as possible. Well, at least I've got a bright blue umbrella (hoping I won't need to use it for real!!)
The plan is to rendezvous with Scurra on arrival, hoping that it is not all too chaotic
It will be interesting to see how the media manage to report this huge but peaceful demonstration......
