Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Thanks anyway guys, After about 2 hours I got one page of usable labels. So then I tried to paste the next lot of addresses on top so I could print out a second page. It didn't work at first then I thought I'd sorted it by looking backwards and forwards from the two pages, then what did I do? Printed out a second page of the first lot of addresses.
So some people will get two cards this year and others won't get one at all.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
I did mine originally by capturing my friend Brian and locking him to a chair next to my computer until he'd talked me through it enough times that it made sense. I can't remember how it all worked now - it involved addresses in outlook then mail merging them. Thing is now I have my word doc I can just amend it when people die
or move
or if I make new friends
. It works fine for me.
But I haven't the foggiest how to do it from scratch any more. Sorry.

It usally only comes up ever 6-18 months or so - which is why I need to re-learn it each time I teach someoneBunnylump wrote:But I haven't the foggiest how to do it from scratch any more. Sorry.

...which is why I do what SparkOut sort of did with that Paint example elsewhere.
Which is that I write myself a document saying how I did it. Since I wrote it, I find I understand what I mean, even when I come back to it after a year - whereas trying to figure out what other people mean is often more confusing than ever. Then again, I know enough to be able to do a lot of "shortcuts" in my notes...

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Well I started trying to sort this during HIGNFY and I think I'm done now.
For some weird reason when I looked at the advanced settings the printer seemed to think it was letter paper even though it clearly stated A4 somewhere else. Once I changed that it spread it all out properly and I managed to print the other pages of addresses.
But I'm not going to start writing the cards now.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
I won £25 today from the premium bonds!
How good is that?
It might slightly soften the blow of having to try to clean the house properly (having spent the last couple of weeks with a really bad back) with a marginally better back. Oh the joys.

Hey well done Bunnylump
Re: Today I've mostly bin...
LAT - how about printing the addresses directly on to the envelopes, very easy if your envelopes are all the same size.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Unfortunately they aren't - I always buy about 5 different cards to send. And I like to address them as I write them or I get terribly confused. I think I'm sorted now - just need to write the cards.
And well done Bunnylump!
Maybe you could use the some of the money to bribe the family to do the cleaning.
And well done Bunnylump!

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
But it would take a lot longer to print the envelopes separately than to print the labels...

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Well, all I can say is that I'm sure EVENTUALLY LAT will be thanking me for convincing her to do her labels like this! It really does save lots o() time - just not the irst time she does it!!
I've just been looking through posts to make sure I wasn't too out of order last night. Apologies if I was ()olks!!
I NEVER learn. I don't want you to all go away with the impression that I'm some kind of raving alcoholic - I'm usually strictly a Friday or Saturday night light to moderate drinker (well, apart from when Gill makes me drink buckets o wine in the middle o a Monday when I met Scurra and Paulman!!
I'm usually really spectacularly sensible* and boring most of the time!!
*Well, ok, that was a lie, but I'm often boring.
Right. I'm off to:
a) Walk round the town delivering cards or a ew hours.
b) Have fun with Creative Wave Studio and make a "guess the intro" game or the estive season. I thought I might try a "listen to the clips, work out what they are, find the link and then sing the lyrics rom the answer game!!" Sounds complicated eh?
I'll let you know how I get on!!

Well I'm off shortly for a choral society rehearsal for the concert this evening (Brahms' Requiem), and also have to fit in a Christingle service and Evensong between the rehearsal and concert. Busy day...
Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Have you got a problem with your F Bunnylump?
I spent last night at a Carols by Candlelight service that Kingsley was playing in with the county orchestra. It was very good except for two things (even the percussion ensemble was brief this time). 1. The pews were incredibly flimsy uncomfortable things. When the large woman next to me sat down I thought the whole thing would collapse , and we might have been more comfortable if it had! 2. By candlelight they meant 4 candles in the main body of the church. It was pitch black, impossible to read the programme and when the choir came on to sing the choir mistress had to ask for some lights to be put on so that she could see the choir, let alone her score!
I think that's me all carolled out until Christmas eve. Three concerts in five days each with uncomfortable seating has left me with a sore back.
Good job two of the kids have broken up from school so can help with the housework.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
WISH I could sing, Evilkeen, I'm jealous. I was in the choir at school, but carefully hidden in the altos. The worst part is that, having a really keen musical ear, although I love to sing, I KNOW it's flipping awful.
I have toyed with the idea o joining the community choir, because it's such amazing FUN to perform music o any kind with other people, but I'm not sure I have the ability!! My range is very restricted (if I'm honest I think I'm more mid way between an alto and a tenor).
I haven't been to any carol concerts at all this year - even though I'm not a religious person I do quite like them. No one will go with me.
When my kids were little we used to go to the Christingle and we'd all watch as the children teetered precariously round the church carrying candles. It used to terrify me with the little girls who loved to have tinsel (highly flamable) in their ponytails would have a small person behind them armed with a naked ()lame!!
Anyway, still haven't got on with my game!

id type the address
pres ctrl+enter to start a new page then type the second address and having the text appear top left of the page id tell the computer the width and height of the smallest and print in the top left corner

Well yeah, but you're one of those clever s*ds, aren't you?
The game is progressing. I'm quite pleased with it so far! Thing is I keep getting sidetracked listening to stuff!!

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Sounds much too complicated for me.
Today we put the tree up, eventually managing to get it to look roughly straight. Also put the lights on it but haven't managed any more decorations yet. And I've been writing some of the cards to go in the envelopes with those lovely address labels.
