Don't you just LOVE the name? :D

My son's got here safely too. Haven't seen him for 3 months so it's quite a shock to see this wild and wooly stranger!! (He hasn't had a hair cut for 3 months - probably because he'd have to pay for it- and he's got hair a bit like Michael McIntyre which grows outwards!!). His 320 mile+ train journey passed uneventully, my husband picking him (and his enormous suitcase) up from the station was far more exciting (and slidy).

4.14, snowing AGAIN.

Just spent over 2 hours getting home from work. :( It should take just under 20 minutes.

usually we go away for a few nights at this time of year to get really christmassy and see the snow but we couldn't afford it this year - so it came to us: :D :D

seriously hertford was a no go tonight - i walked into work and oh was going to pick me up but such a line of non moving trafic i tried to make my way to him and was nearing home by the time we met.

my daughter drove to Harlow and has been stuck there ever since (told her to go get something to eat and try later) after the first hour and a half. Not sure if she will make it home tonight - told her if she makes ware to stay at boyfriends home.

We have a largest hill to climb and there was no way we were going to make it even when oh tried to reverse and take a "run up" - wasnt too keen myself with a big brick bridge to each side. So we eventually parked at the bottom and traversed up.

not sure about work tomoz but problem is it is always walkable - no excuses

how is everyone else doing, Any last minute shoppers are doomed

We attempted to go to our caravan yesterday. We made it there OK but everything was frozen solid. Including the water in the loo bowl! Heat wouldn't have been a problem but no water would and the pipes outside were solid. Turned around and came straight back home. Have spent today tring to find a last minute in the sun holiday. No joy as yet. Daughters was the obvious choice but she tells us it has been freezing cold all week so we will give that a miss too.

a friend of a friend has had to leave her taps on.... she's fed from a spring well and if the water isn't flowing, it freezes... :o Mind you, they do live on the top of Saddleworth Moor, so it's not surprising really

I've just got back from a trip to Essex to see my Dad. Our town is still pretty awful (and indeed if anyone is thinking of using it the A41 is SHUT due to ice and last I heard there was stationary traffic all the way all the way from Tring to Hemel Hempstead (about 10 miles). However, the motorways were all really clear and there seems to be much less snow going east than we have here.

Well I'm feeling very virtuous. I made it to work today and was the only one in the office - there were a string of e-mails from everyone else saying they weren't going to bother. And I got home again in a fraction of the time it took yesterday. I think I was caught up in the backlog of the troubles in the Basingstoke area which I've just been watching in the news.

I can confirm that - we're still free of snow, and hoping it stays that way for the next week while the family are all here.... :D :D . So you're ok, Eirian, Thomas won't need his snow boots this time ..... though Grandma has knitted him a nice woolly hat which could come in handy :P

You'll have to be careful that he doesn't get enlisted for a job in Lapland though... :D

I had to take my Mother to the doctor's today. What fun. Fortunately I went mob handed - but as the doctor's surgery (which has a steep slope, uneven ground, drains and potholes and a stupid barrier to negotiate at the best of times) hadn't bothered to clear the snow or ice outside, getting a wheelchair up there took 3 of us. Then, driving back, we had to go up a steep hill back to my Mum's - I got about half way up (with traffic behind me and parked / abandoned cars on both sides) and got stuck. I ended up getting my daughter's boyfriend to drive my car while I pushed it with my daughter and a kind passer by. It took us about 15 minutes to get to the top and I don't think I have much of a clutch left in my car now. What a nightmare!!

What a nightmare indeed!

I think we've had it relatively easy here! A bit of drizzle this evening, almost snow but not quite, we'll see what it's like in the morning.

We have had thick white ice on the road for the last five days, despite not having had any snow, but I was just about to bring the bin in and we seem to have had about an inch of snow fall in the last hour. The forecasters at lunchtime didn't have any snow over us. (Mustn't get my hopes up that we'll be snowed in by Friday . Ooops! did I say that out loud  )

We've had about an inch of the white stuff tonight now it's sleeting. Heaven only knows what the road will be like here in the morning as we've been way below freezing all day and the roads have been white from frost all day.

As Giraffe says the forcasters put the snow further north.
