Festive mistakes?

#1 Post by giraffe » Sun Dec 27, 2009 4:56 pm

Who would like to share their most inappropriate picture on a Christmas card, or worst present? Here's mine.

Card: Picture of the chandalier in the dining room at Chatsworth! (It's not even an attractive picture and I can't imagine what it has to do with Christmas or even "Wintertide")

Present: A box of those chocolates that look like seafood. Just the sight of them turns my stomach. (I AM a chocoholic, but I'm allergic to sea food and I don't like belgian chocolate, so they will be going in the first raffle I encounter)

Urgh. I hate those seashells too. And why mix all the chocolate up together? I like Dark chocolate. I don't want white chocolate mixed in with it.

All presents were very good this year. One of the dodgy cards was horses wearing santa hats, but it was home-made and from a horse-obssessed 9yr old at school, so I'll forgive her!

I didn't realise they had dark chocolate , that makes them even worse. (I don't like white either, for a chocoholic I'm very fussy)

They might not. It's just too mixed up for me really.

Too fishy for me. (And to make it worse the giver told me they'd nearly bought me a chocolate orange instead.....my favourite :( )

You wouldn't have appreciated my planned seahorse Christmas cards then...

The worst card we had was from the same person who sends the worst card every year. Every year she hand makes a card with photos of her two son's heads stuck on somewhere. This was relatively nauseating when they were 2 and 3 and cute, but now they are 17 and 18 it's just scary. One year she made the shape of skiers with photos of their heads stuck on the top. They were meant to slide down a mountain, attached to a penny at the back of the card. Sadly, the horrible picture became detached leaving a mountain with a penny skiing down it. Another year she made special detachable baubles with her sons' heads on them, which apparently we were supposed to hang on our tree!

...says the man on a stick...

Oh, and weirdest present came, as ever, from the hippy contingent. We got various hippy jewelery and then assorted "world" musical instruments, including a frog with a vibrating "drum" skin attached to a stick on a string, which, when you turn the stick, makes a clicky frog noise. Never know when you'd need one of those.

Do you know what's really funny? If I go onto Scurra's profile, it says

I don't think he's too impressed by that. That is where most of the bickering takes place...

We bought our son's partner a big pregnancy pillow. There doesn't seem to be enough room for him, her and the pillow!

we had the usual one of OH aunt and partner with their christmas jumpers and hats on away in their caravan somewhere, taken in the summer so they can get them on the cards in time for christmas

prezzie:- 20 different packs of assorted incense sticks from my son and his girlfriend (who haven't any money), but 2 or 3 packs would have been enough, as he had already given me 2 packs a couple of weeks ago as a thank you for bailing him out with some money again! I think I have enough for the reast of the year, Bless him a box of the seaside chocs would have done me (I'm a pisces what more can I say)

My brother (the "real" brother) rescued a whole crate full of really awful Christmas cards with a black and white photo of the "Water Gardens" (in Hemel Hempstead town centre) from a skip when he was about 17. He then sent those same Christmas cards to everyone he knew for about 20 years. He also did the same thing when he bought a job lot of black and white postcards which read "Greetings from Woolacombe" (the sort where people's cheeks are coloured in pink). He then made a point of taking some on holiday with him wherever he went (including abroad) and sent them to people.

(Tight? Certainly. Strange? Decidedly).

My friend went to South Africa, and brought me back an unwritten postcard that she hadn't had chance to send. So when I went to Devon, I took it with me, wrote it and sent it back to her, and brought a Devon postcard home to give to her. That went on her next holiday and got sent to me etc. etc. for a good six holidays or so!
