Losing weight

#1 Post by Bunnylump » Sun Feb 14, 2010 6:09 pm

OK I thought I'd start this up for anyone who's trying to shed a few pounds or a few stones*. If anyone's got any top tips or good low fat recipes, this is the place to put them! :D

Who am I kidding, few tons is a bit more like it... :(

OK first off. Them thar diet pills - anyone tried them, are they worth it?

Also - I need some ideas for mid day snacks which are quick and easy. If I have to faff about then I know I won't do it.

I heard the diet pills give you the runs if you eat anything with fat in. That may mean they work, but I don't think I could cope with the side effects.

I've lost 3 pounds in the last couple of weeks, shame that 3 stone would still leave me overweight. :(

i have not tried the diet pills but tried slender milkshakes as a teenager and older and they just made my weight yo yo.

mid day meals - i tend to just have salads, or soup coz i am too lazy to make anything elaborate.

Being slightly less of a pig probably. I've mainly been trying to cook slightly healthier meals, not putting butter on jacket potatoes, or bread if it's really fresh, eating more fruit, not snacking. I haven't been trying really hard (yet) just trying to stop the upward trend before going on a full assault on my spare tyres.

I had to take my husband's dress suit trousers to be let out last week, so for once he's joining in, which helps.

Even my son (who's always been irritatingly slim and muscly despite eating his body weight in food every day) confessed that he had tried his dinner jacket trousers on and couldn't do them up. Mind you, I think that's more to do with the vast quanties of Guinness he drinks in the uni bar.

So, do you go to a class or do you get the magazines? A friend of mine did RC before and it involved an exercise class as well...
...I don't do exercise classes. Lycra and me is a BIG no.

I have never then to a club before but as nothing had worked before i plucked up the courage and its not too bad. They charge £6 a session which includes exercise but you do not have to do the exercise bit if you don't want too.

They are quite hot on the whole exercise and diet idea though and I do do the class but the rest of the time i just do my wii fit dvd.

ps i definately dont wear lycra - i am a baggy t shirt, big hoody and baggy tracksuit bottoms.

hate to be an old fuddy duddy bunny but exercize is a good way to increase the amount of calories used and thus a possible way of balancing out your intake ;-)
go help in the gym a few times a week...with games not exercise

Well done Biscuit, that's brilliant! :D

I've done slimming world before, which works well, but I find it rather boring, because I'm not very adventurous with food and tend to end up eating the same things over and over again. I tried weightwatchers once, but with slimming world you can eat as much fruit and veg as you want, wheareas weight watchers seems to use a lot of points for fruit.

well on the rosemary conley - i sort of roughly follow it and stick to the principles which are eat low fat low calorie and exercise. have a snack in the morning and afternoon which i tend to stick to fruit.

Today i have popped home to SUPPORT my son with his revision and get him organised so I have made myself a quick lunch of toast (no butter) but i have the hovis seeded bread so it has a lot of taste anyway. 1 poached egg, 2 rachers bacon, two grilled tomatoes and two grilled mushrooms - i think in the book it says unlimited toms etc.

I saw the woman who used to run the slimming world class on the tills at ASDA today. She looks like she has put all the weight back on, so perhaps she doesn't feel she can lead the class any more. I didn't dare go through her aisle as I would have felt guilty about the Jaffa Cakes in my trolley. (I buy Jaffa cakes because I hate them, but the rest of the family like them)

That's the really depressing part of it all. When I did weightwatchers last time ( a few years ago) I lost 3 and a half stone. And now I've put it all back on again. The part that really irritates me is that I honestly DON'T usually eat things like biscuits, chocolate, crisps, cake. I NEVER drink sweet or fizzy drinks and rarely eat fried food of any description. I never eat ready meals, or sweets. I dislike pastry and rarely eat red meat.

I do drink alcohol (which I know is really bad). So if I diet I have to cut back on alcohol first and then actual meals. :(

Sorry - no help from this end of the country - I'm still a 'reverse anorexic'... when I look in the mirror I see the skinny WEED that I was for most of my life, even though I've been geting heavier each year since my 40th birthday.

Added to that, an eating habit of 'as much as you like, whatever you like' and a total aversion to exercise - I'm heading on a bad road. Intellectually and logically I know it, but I STILL don't do anything about it.

Full marks to Biscuit for the effort she is making - that is impressive. The wii sounds like an interesting exerecise technique [I know I was knackered when the Police 24/7 arcade game first came out - you dodge and duck to avoid being shot]

The problem with the wii is it makes a little cartoon character of you, based on your height weight etc. And to make it worse, if you haven't been on for a while and you've put weight on, it gets fatter as you watch.

i actually worry about putting the weight back on as i here so many stories but i will have to just keep going - i certainly feel better.

I don't actually play on the wii fit as i got a bit down when my mii would get bigger when i was weighed but i do the ea sports active more workouts game which is great because you are transported to a beach paradise to do a series of exercises and it includes things like sit ups and press ups and lots of other "normalish" exercises. it tells you how many calories you are burning and gives you a 6 week challenge of different work outs so you dont get too bored.

I do drink a bit but somehow still manage to lose weight - i think the exercise compensates.

Bunnylump I keep adding my meal suggestions as I know you were after these.

For dinner I had dry roast chicken, potatoes, sweet potatoes, parsnips plus carrots, peas and beans, gravy - but i didnt get around to desert.

Re the wii: I refused point blank to get on it. I'd want to shoot myself. I don't even look in mirrors. (That's probably why I look such a state most of the time... skirt inside out, t shirts on backwards etc:lol:
