While I'd love to lose a stone at least I've come to terms with the fact that genetically its not going to happen- and stay happened. Yes, I can lose weight - weightwatchers worked for me.

I'm the same shape now that my mother was at my age. My daughter is the same shape I was at her age- and at 34 she knows her shape is changing already.

Our nephews wife is vegan, tends towards being a fruitarian, and what that girl doesn't know about food is not worth knowing. She doesn't do alcohol at all. However, her genetic make up is part Indian, part Italian and quarter English. She's the same shape as her mother - VERY large.

Hmmm. My daughter's panicking now we're going away with my son's OH (who is about a size 6-8  ). Mind you, at least I'll make my daughter look good... She's suggesting we join Weightwatchers. I tend to feel like it's more like Fatfighters... When I went there before, we initially went into the wrong room at the community centre. We followed all the fat people into a room - it transpired that it was in fact a parish council meeting.

must admit we call my rosemary conley "fat fighters" - the power of tv -

didnt go this week as put on 1lb last week and couldn't face it and so much is going on at work that i am pretty stressed and what happens when you are stressed!!! - 2 bags of maltesers plus it was my nieces 21st who is doing her placement year with us - so cakes all round.

i think it was a wise decision.

OK I've given in and joined fat fighters too. After an appalling start (birthday and mother's day week - ate out 3 times plus 2 lots of birthday cake) I thought I would have put weight ON. If I'm honest I didn't even read all the rubbish they gave me and didn't try at all. I joined mainly to do the exercise class. BUT - amazingly enough I did lose a pound. How that happened I have no idea. My daughter, who had also had a terrible week AND ate an entire family bag of chocolate, bizarrely lost 4lb. She was SO embarrassed when she was "slimmer of the week"!!!

Anyway, I'm now feeling all virtuous, because we've been swimming today as well. I am a really useless swimmer (very inefficient and slow) but I made myself swim 500metres. Which doesn't sound much, but considering I haven't been swimming for 3 years* that's pretty good. Mind you my daughter managed to swim twice as far in the same time. Oh, and the person on the till didn't know how to apply the student discount, so let her in for free. So that was a bit of a result.

*Largely on account of being too self conscious about being seen in a swimming suit... The ridiculous thing is that if I could get over the embarrassment of being seen I could swim for free at work every morning (we have a pool there.) But I couldn't bear the thought of my work colleagues seeing me!! Stupid, I know.

Round here if you are over 45 you can swim for free at the leisure centres.

That probably means you've got LOADS of effort going in ;)

Well done for trying - and take advantage of the fact you have FREE swimming at work... that is a bonus in anyone's book. We have a pool opposite the library that I'm sometimes based - but the thought of dashing over, getting showered after, then heading for an afternoon session with a group of learners, does NOT sound good to me.

Swimming would be great if you didn't have to get wet to do it.

Yes, I know what you mean. Particularly as (because I have such a mop of hair) it takes about an hour to dry, which is obviously not feasible under those rubbish high up hand driers they have at the pool. So I end up going out looking like a drowned rat. What I really need is a type of exercise which doesn't involve getting wet, or any cost, where you don't need any particular clothing. Oh yeah, I have an idea...

OK this is a very slow process. However, I am pleased to report that I have so far lost 5 and a half pounds - 2 of which were this week, which is pretty amazing after having eaten lots of Easter eggs. I'm not doing the diet (haven't even read past "eat nothing with higher than 5 g of fat and alcohol is banned totally" - at which point I just laughed) but I AM doing lots of exercise. Did Keep Fat to dreadful music this evening, yesterday swam 750 metres. :D
I decided dieting was stupid because all that happens is that I become obsessed by what I'm not allowed to eat. So I'm just keeping to my usual healthy diet with the odd bit of red wine and chocolate thrown in. :D That sounds like a far more sensible plan, doesn't it?

One of my friends lost quite a lot on a diet where you could eat anything you like as long as it has no more than 4g of fat per 100g and at least 10 g of fibre per 100g. I think it works because by the time you have read the label in enough detail you have either forgotton that you were hungry or thought twice about eating anything at all.

Well done, Bunny, that's really good. They do say that the slower it takes to come off the slower it is to come back on.
I could do with loosing a bit, I think the Bunny Diet sounds great, healthy meal, red wine and choc, yum!

Perhaps I should try it. Do you think it would work if I replaced red wine with another portion of Chocolate?

Well done bunny!
I agree, eating sensibly must be much better in the long run as you won't get so tempted to break the diet, or give up when you get fed up with it.

And can't see why not giraffe! :D

I'll add my congrats, that's really good going Bunny. Just shows that exercise is far better than silly diets. (and after all, a small amount of alcohol is better than none for general health anyway)

Ditto - although I suspect in my case a little too much red wine v. the healthy meal.... I think you've got a winner in the Buuny Diet though
