So I know who to come to for help now? I have found a big spreadsheet with lots of the info I had found but it doesn't tell me where I got all of it.giraffe wrote:The above posts prompted me to go and have a look at the forum for the first time since the end of December, only to find someone had pmed me for help in January. OOps!
So not a good day Bunny?
Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Have you read Good Omens*? There's a splendid explanation for the M25 in there. Along with the first appearance of the theory that any cassette tape left in a car inevitably eventually transforms into a copy of Queen's Greatest Hits.Bunnylump wrote:...Sitting on the giant car park which encircles London.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Well, it was fine once I actually arrived at my Dad's (he lives in Essex). But there were lovely roadworks and contraflows and accidents along the way. Both ways.So not a good day Bunny?
And no, I haven't read that, Scurra. Perhaps I should.
I remember when I was at Willesden Technology College (studying to be a building surveyor) we had lessons in Town Planning. I remember the teacher saying how there had been plans to build a circular motorway around London for YEARS, and that it would never happen.
The only other thing I can remember about the course was the construction tutor who spent 2 long hours droning on about necessary depths of foundations, and finished the lesson by saying "That said, those houses across the road have NO foundations, and have been there for the past 200 years".

That is, actually, true. Not tapes, though, CDs. And I've never even BOUGHT Queen's greatest hits!!Along with the first appearance of the theory that any cassette tape left in a car inevitably eventually transforms into a copy of Queen's Greatest Hits.
OOps sorry that should have been an edit of above post, sorry.
And the other thing I meant to say was I've booked to go and see Ghost Stories at the Lyric with my friend on Friday. And after I did that I saw THIS.

Starting to wonder if it was such a good plan...

Bunnylump, I'm impressed you remember so much of your course. About the only thing I can remember from my university course is a lecturer we had (with a foreign accent ) who told us about "error planes" it took me a while to work out that he wasn't talking about aeroplanes

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Well, I made up for it a bit by being large.
It was so nice to "see" someone I talk to most days (again)!!
Speaking of which, who's up for Clvrlad's idea of meeting up in July, in London for the day?
I'm up for it, just as long as some kind soul will meet me at Euston! It's lovely to meet people individually (and I am still up for that too) but it's nice to all get together as well, isn't it?

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
No, not for me. I'm happy to go with whatever everyone wants to do. I don't mind trying to organise a get together (if I can have an organisation "buddy" or two
) BUT I wouldn't want to do it here. My house is too small and I'd get too stressed. I know that sounds like I'm being a miserable bag, but I'm just being honest.
I am also happy to drive other people if anyone needs a lift, just as long as it's not in a big city.
EDIT I think we should probably discuss this on a different thread. I'll start one up.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
hi - so what is the sky like in england- are you clouded by an enormous lava cloud ??
I am stuck on holiday - all flights cancelled so we have been put up in the hotel for an extra day - i would rather be stuck here than the airport.

Clear skies and sunshine here today, not sure where the lava cloud is!

Glad you're being looked after. I'm now on plan D (according to Gill!!) - plan A was thurs (when flight got cancelled), plan B was tomorrow morning (flight cancelled), plan C (Monday morning flight - which could be difficult) - plan D is stay at home and have some time to think about the MUMS competition - instead of trying to travel overseas to work!!!
It still seems strange that the skies the last few days have been crystal clear and we have have had plenty of sunshine - just surprising what is going on above us that we cant see.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
...Been to London AGAIN (I'm becoming a regular, aren't I?
)
This time I went with my friend to see Ghost Stories at the Lyric. Well, what can I say? Having read all the hype and reviews, went prepared to be scared witless. It started off promisingly, with a sound of spooky dripping and droning in the foyer and the lights flickering on and off. Then walking into the "Gods" in the pitch black. Now that WAS terrifying. My eyes take a while to adjust so I couldn't see where I was walking, and the seats are precipitously stacked with a giddying drop down to the stage. THAT scared me witless. The height made me feel sick, and walking past people to get to my seat with that drop without being able to see totally freaked me out.
I could NOT, however, say the same of the play. Yes, it was meritous in other respects, some reasonably clever sets and lighting, but a bit of a tenous story and NOT FRIGHTENING AT ALL. Well, a couple of loud unexpected noises made me jump, but that was it.
I think it's likely to go to the West End (I'm assuming this because this was the end of the run and they were filming people's reactions for advertising purposes). I have to say that I would NOT particularly recommend it - yes it was OK for the £15 I paid, but I would have been really fed up if I'd spent £50 odd to see it in the West End.
However, we did enjoy our day out overall. I know this sounds like a few random things to do BUT...
neither of us had ever walked across Tower Bridge (and as you know I have a liking for bridges). We also made a point of visiting St Pancras Station (just to have a look at the building -amazing, interesting roof structure, and to see the giant "meeting place" statue.)
This piece seems to really divide opinion. Personally, I didn't especially rate the figures themselves, however, the work round the BASE of the statue is wonderful. (Unfortunately you can't see that in this picture.)
Cor, look at that. I've just used this thread for its original purpose. Well there has to be a first time for everything.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
I just got back from my day out to find a whole kitchen full of washing up, dirty pans etc.
Well, if they think I'm clearing it up or cooking anything at all in it until it's done, THEY can think again.
