Did you also go to King's Cross to see platform 9 3/4?

 Gill, now you know that's what you'd quite like to do to me just now.

LAT You know me so well!! I insisted my friend took my photo pushing the trolley into the wall. She was really embarrassed.

I just re read my post above and it occurred to me that it makes me look quite strange. But I really do enjoy interesting buildings. I was delghted to be introduced to the British Museum Great Court last week. I made a certain gentleman walk right round it twice while I took in the amazing glass roof and lovely "green" light. :D Am I strange? :?

Am I strange she asks! How are we to answer that? Sounds a good day though.

I have spent this evening sorting my Runes workings and trying to work out where I had got to. And more importantly how I had got there :? . It looks like I have two stages left to complete but I have so many messages on different pieces of paper that I'm not entirely sure where I got them all and if (and where) I have used them all. HELP!!!!!!!!!! It may be another 2 1/2 years before I finish.

Well I suppose it makes me feel glad we didn't actually get all the way down to King's Cross ourselves - otherwise I'd have been the one having to take that picture :)
(Mind you, I'd probably have demanded to do the same  )

How often do people have to say that there's nothing odd about liking interesting buildings? The odd bit is in not liking them, surely?

No comment.

Yes, if I'd been behind you I'd have gone for it

I have to say (now that Scurra's clearly not horrified at the thought of people knowing I made him come out with me last week!! - I was - rather uncharacteristically, I feel, trying to be discreet  ) if anyone can convince him into going out with them in London - he's actually a brilliant person to go with. He knows lots of STUFF. He can tell you what all the buildings are and something about them. He knows nice places to go and to see. And he's surprisingly thoughtful and tolerant of someone who gets lost all the time and has no idea where they are going.

In fact, I did wonder if he'd actually sent his twin brother. He left the evil jester at home...

Don't worry folks, normal service will now be resumed. I'll be back to swearing at him now.

Cor, look at that. I've just used this thread for its original purpose. Well there has to be a first time for everything.
You Lucky Duck - sounds like you had a great time :)

I didn't know about that statue in St Pancras Station - I tend only to see Kings Cross.

(Nice photo btw)

Speaking of buildings - I'm doing this in Newcastle's new Library. If you like modern as well as old, I think you'd like it here :)

Now that ALMOST sounded like an invitation there, bro! MBH rapidly moves house...

And yes,Clvrlad, if being strange is defined by whether or not I'm nice to Scurra, then I'm clearly only strange on high days and holidays (since, as I said, normal service is now resumed). So that's ok then, I'm glad I'm in the realms of normality. ;) And anyway, I'm still convinced it was his twin brother. I didn't shout or stamp once, all day (AND had fun). Clearly I couldn't possibly have done that with the REAL Scurra...

And Biscuit - what a chore!! Fancy having ENFORCED extra holiday!! Have a safe trip home whenever that may be!! :D

Hey Gill - that's rotten that you couldn't get away as planned to visit your "little treasure".... Hope you get a substitute flight sometime to compensate.

However. it is really fascinating to follow the comments about how horribly dependent we have all become on air travel. Whilst feeling enormous sympathy for those poor soul finding themselves stranded (some in really difficult circumstances), it is a salutory reminder that we sholdn't take all this for granted - and I have difficulty sympathising with those poor souls complaining that they can't get their beautiful flowers and exotic vegetables flown in from Kenya etc. Hooray for local seasonal produce :D

I too hope the long term effect is that businesses realise they can manage with local goods and without all the brief meetings that could be done by telephone conference. My husband often has to go to Switzerland or Sweden for a 2 hour meeting, which takes a couple of days of his time, because the flights are at stupid times, only to come back and say it was a complete waste of time. And then there was the time he had to go to Canada for a meeting, two days in the air for a short meeting. He hates flying too, despite having tried everything including hypnotherapy and fear of flying courses to cope with it.

shame about your holiday Gill.

We are still standed over here but i say as long as they dont take silly risks to get us home when it is not safe. Perhaps they can bus and train the people stuck in mainland europe. There was talk about trying to get a plane to Scotland and an 8 hour train journey down from there but they don't seem to be doing that. I reckon our cat Biscuit will think we have diserted her.

My son has only 5 weeks left before study leave and it looks like he will not make school monday. In fact there is a lot of scaremongering with some holidaymakers saying it will be at least another 5 days till we can get home. Who knows!!

Lets hope you can rebook your holiday once all this is out of the way Gill and thanks for the interesting post regarding the disruption.

hey Biscuit - you have been fairly low key about your own disruption, but it sounds pretty serious and that is awful if you are still stranded :o You didn't say where you are stuck????? Hope things sort themselves out soon

Well the disruption is pretty minimal - doing a bit of wash basin washing as we are running out of clothes and we are stuck in barbados - it isnt really too big a chore - we haven't even had to leave the hotel - they just keep extending the stay. The flights have been cancelled for tomorrow too. Hotel is getting pretty full now as they have also moved all the flight only people here too, but there is plenty of food and i am sitting here on the computer with my son in the chair next to me as he says it is better if i watch him revise otherwise he gets distracted.

Ah don't worry MBH. The furthest I've ever been in my life on behalf of work was Colchester (for a month - grim).

You would probably have a great time visiting up here - but if getting to London is a chore then I don't think I'll be seeing you here :(
